My laptop suddenly went dead

Today, when I pressed the sleep button on my Windows laptop, it suddenly went dead, even though the battery was higher than 50%, and battery saver was on. I tried long pressing the power button, but nothing happened. The battery indicator that appears during sleep mode doesn't even appear. What could have happened?

Hi, you haven't mentioned what model laptop or how old it is.
Have you got the laptop plugged into the charger?
It sounds as though the battery is dead and the laptop isn't plugged in to the mains adapter.

It's an ASUS convertible, and it had a lot of battery when it went dead. My friend tried holding the power button for about 1 second and it turned back on. The battery was still about the same afterwards.
