Headphones as audio device

I want to record audio with headphones, but when I go to my laptop's sound settings, the headphones aren't detected as an audio device. It still says the audio's playing through speakers.

Did you push the audio jack pin all the way to the end?

If not, you might want to try that first.

I tried making sure the microphone is plugged into the headphones, and then turned the microphone on. The microphone is now working and I can record more easily.
