Why does CNN app via Safari on iPad keep freezing constantly?

CNN app works for a limited amount of time then becomes slow to scroll until the app freezes. Leaving and starting new session doesn’t help. Deleting app and downloading hasn’t helped. This is the only news app this happens to, as google news will scroll and never lock up. What is the problem? Is CNN ignoring the need for an update to their app?
