It didn't take long. Continuum was demoed on the 950 XL on Tuesday and by Thursday Verizon announced a $20 hike in the cost of unlimited data plans. The big boys do not want a PC with an unlimited data plan hooked up to their network.

But the retaliation was already done when they didn't carry the new phones...which sounds like a MS decision anyway (no CDMA radios, not offering to other carriers besides AT&T).

No, this is a private squabble between the Daleks and Ferengi.

*puts on wizard hat to renew contract w/UDP past the current 8/16 cutoff*

I was thinking more along the lines of Continuum's ultimate use. There still exists the possibility of some manufacturer somewhere creating a Verizon compatible Continuum phone. Verizon's move basically makes it clear it doesn't want anyone taking full advantage of Continuum on its network.

Considering how the networks have blocked tethering and charge for every device connected to the network regardless of actually network usage or capacity I can't see them being too happy about Continuum.

Tethering wasn't blocked on my 822 (Verizon) or my 830 (AT&T), but regardless, it's hardly the same thing.

Nor would they need to do that, when it would be easier to beg MS for Continuum enabled phones, then try kicking people off UDP for unapproved tethering. (Not sure if it would hold up in court, but I'm sure their legal budget is higher than all of ours.)

The carriers are the dinosaurs that doesn't see the tar pits. Microsoft/Apple/Google is the asteroid that is coming to make them extinct.

Well, 3/4 right is pretty good.

But the question remains as to whether MS is going to be an asteroid or a dinosaur.

Carefully locking out huge swaths of potential users in one of your larger markets and slathering corporate buzzwords all over it sounds closer to fallen titans than current greats.

You're assuming way too much. These events are not related and there is no proof or facts to back it up..
