Cortana to have a different voice actress on handsets in the UK

For every negativity about Windows Phone I have always said "well at least we'll have Cortana". Being a Halo fan in the UK, nothing is more awesome than having Cortana in my Smartphone... Except now we wont; to me, Jen Taylor IS Cortana, and without that iconic voice, it might as be called Clippy.

No, wouldn't expect her too, perfectly happy with an American accent since that is what Cortana is. At least give us an option for American-accent Jen Taylor or whatever English actor/actress they get.

Or letting us use the US English speech set but have everything else set to UK for Cortana.

No doubt it will be renamed to Cortina in the Uk with various versions up to mk5 and then the refresh version will become Escort lol

Its quite ridiculous. Halo doesnt come with British voice acting for Cortana, does it? English speaking countries should have Cortana with Jen's voice, as long as its localised properly to understand the local accents no one using it will think it out of place that the voice is American, they will just think its Cortana from Halo.

This just further strengthens the notion that Microsoft only cares about the US, they make announcements about a feature but never come clean and say locations outside the US will get nerfed versions, they just let users in those areas find out the hard way for themselves. And since most of the tech press is US based you'll never hear anyone with any influence complain about it, and so it continues on and on.

I actually like the fact that my phone will speak to me properly, and pronounce words properly!

Think about it though, with all of the recording and voice acting Jen is doing for US Cortana, can you imagine how long we would have to wait if someone British was not able to work in parallel?! How would it work? Jen updates each region every fortnight, and by the time all regions are updated,a year had passed before the first region gets its next chit-chat update? Bonkers. I imagine this news is purely about the practicality of it as described above, and not anything else!

to Americans and young people Cortana is a completely fine as a name but to older people like me Cortana is just too close to Cortina, not that anyone gives a flying cr*p what I think, I do think the name will get some ridicule in the uk though should it ever become a mainstream item

My mother's 51, calls Cortana "Consuela", and talks to her in her best American accent. Older people will get by just fine.

No doubt about that nic but it is soo close to Cortina it will definitely get ridiculed

On a side note, I would love the welsh version to get rob brydons voice, that would be quality

We Brits may get an option to choose to keep Jen's voice. If not, my 930 will stay set to the US.
