I've been itching to do a new build, but I really haven't had much gaming time (or extra money to burn!), so it's been getting put off and put off.
My current build is going on 4 or 5 years old now. Still running great! Though I can't run some of the latest titles because my video card is a DirectX 10 card, and a lot of new games require DirectX 11 hardware. Funny thing is my old card is faster than a lot of new DirectX 11 cards... still..
Anyway, here's my "Flagship" gaming rig I built 4-5 years ago:
Case: CoolerMaster HAF 932 (has 3 monster 230mm fans!)
M/B: EVGA X58 SLI
PSU: Thermaltake Black Widow 850w modular
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 currently @stock speed
RAM: 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3 @1600Mhz
HDD: W/D 150GB 10k RPM Velociraptor (SSDs were still too pricey when I built this rig. This is still one of the fastest mechanical drives on the planet)
HDD: W/D 1TB 7200 RPM Black
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 (Dual GPU - runs SLI in a single card solution! Was the top of the line flagship card from Nvidia at the time)
Display: 27" AOC LED 1080p (2ms response time)
DVD: 16x burner
Logitech K/B & Mouse - run of the mill. Nothing fancy
Wired Afterglow Xbox 360 Controller for some games
***Update*** gave this machine a much needed upgrade to run the latest titles! Upgraded the video card, PSU, RAM and finally added an SSD with a clean install of the latest Win10 Pro 64bit!
