Well, I'll let you guys decide. The images are the jpgs from JPG + RAW capture. Everything is in auto aside from focus.. My early conclusion: 1020 was having a hard time with macro shots. Fix for it is to zoom in more, then manual focus. Also DXO optics pro is not detecting the 950XL raw files. I think it's because it doesn't have the modules for it..

1020 is still better which is sad. It has better bokeh. I would love to have refreshed 1020 with latest processor, ram, better optics, improved algorithms . Sensor on the 1020 still cannot be touched and it's almost 3 years old! I think the 808 is better than the 1020.

Bokeh is not the end-all be-all of picture quality. I find the 950XL samples above to be sharper, have better dynamic range, and have better color reproduction than the 1020 samples.

I took some photos today and like everyone of them the subjects had white eye. No really everyone looks like a zombie or Storm take your pick. I have never had any camera do that. I kinda freaked me out and ruined my photos...so sad. Still keeping the phone just bumed about the whole white eye thing.

It's a common problem with LED flashes.

That is why you use rich capture (lower a flash a bit to remove white eyes, but keep all the detail :)

No comparison, the 950 xl is much better with close up shots, in low light, and when using flash (if using rich capture). Plus the time to launch camera and between pictures is a massive upgrade. Oh, and the low profile thing is nice as well.

I'm going to continue to use the 1020 as a mini mini tablet/camera without a sim card.

I have both. I think the 1020 is still better. The only reason the 950 looks better to the human eye is because of the processing. To me it adds too much sharpness. When 100% cropped you can see the noise the 950 produces. But when you transfer both to lightroom and process the pictures from there 1020 wins hands down. So much more to work with in terms of cropping. The area the 1020 is hurting is white balance. Dynamic range 1020 wins too, just look at the pot picture the highlights are blown with the 950. Too me sensor size wins 90% of the time

I'd say for now day to day use, practically, and "capturing the moment" 950XL wins. But if you have all the time composing and don't mind the loading times, 1020 is a better fit. I'll do more personal testing once I get some time.

I like the Lumia 950 pictures more.
The 1020 is great but I could never use it as a daily camera anymore. If there's ever an upgrade with a faster processor than possibly but as it stands the 1020 is outdated.

I must say that just the speed of the 950/XL makes it a worthy upgrade for 1020 users. The pictures are comparable to it and just being able to actually capture a scene without asking people to pause what they are doing is awesome.

yep the 1020 has les depth of view thats why it looks a bit better on the bokeh. But than thats all said i wont have too think a second between my 950XL and 1020 The 950 has better dynamics range contrasts noise control focus colors and is so much faster

as u can see here in a low light condition obviously the 1020 is photographed by the 950XL and vice versa
