Is the Edge browser based on chrome?

I just signed into my icloud account to verifying something then I received an email from apple that I was using Chrome as a browser....How even that possible?

all that was done with my laptop which is Toshiba with windows 10 in it.

Nope, it's the user agent string which is use by browsers to identify themselves to sites so they render them properly and so on. This is the User Agent String of edge:

[INFO]Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/46.0.2486.0 Safari/537.36 Edge/13.10586[/INFO]

Yup, MS made the switch to help with compatibility.

It started with IE11

The user agent string and "Edge being based on Chrome" are not the same thing lol.

Edge like internet explorer is a core component of the operating system, which is why Microsoft got into a heap of trouble in Europe and the reason why "N versions" of Windows exist for certain markets.
