A competition challenges youth developers to design innovative mobile applications to foster social inclusion. The contest, launched today (edit: contest began 22th of July), is a joint initiative of the global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider Huawei, the leading software maker Microsoft and the European Young Innovators Forum (EYIF).

The competition, entitled ?InnoApps, Huawei Apps Developers European Challenge, Powered by Microsoft?, is open to university students and young professionals under 27 who are EU residents. The contest aims to contribute to a more inclusive society by fostering ?e-skills?, increasing ?e-participation? and promoting entrepreneurship among young people.

Contributions will be accepted until 8 September 2013. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Brussels during Global Entrepreneurship Week, which will take place from 18 to 24 November 2013.

The winner of the first prize will be awarded ?5000 and will enjoy full commercialisation support to help them promote their app and to further foster youth entrepreneurship. The developers who come in first and second place, and the top female developer, will be taken by Huawei on a trip to China?s innovation centres. These developers, along with the audience?s selected winner, will all have their apps promoted in Microsoft?s Windows store. The six finalists will receive technical and marketing mentoring at a Brussels workshop, as well as promotion on the organisers? websites. They, and six runners-up, will also receive a Huawei phone each. Full article available here : PRESS RELEASE: InnoApps Challenge- empowering young people to make a difference > Microsoft Europe

I'm sure there are young creative developers from European Union around WPCentral website. Maybe its worth to take the challenge? Greetings :)

Wow! That's a great opportunity for young developers in Europe. It'll be interesting to see what apps are created.

That's for sure, but I'm worried if european developers reach this thread to find out about this interesting contest before it will be buried deeply somewhere, along with cat videos topic :-(.

Slightly disappointed to see the age restriction - 27!? - Gray beards not welcome it seems, not sure what the point of an age limit is, nor if it's legal (imagine if it said white/male/able bodied developers only)?

you know, young people aren't interested in writing apps for Windows Phone at all. That's because WP ecosystem is still veryyy unattractive when compared to iOS and Android. For every 1 download on WP Store they could get about 40 (App Store) and 90 (Google Play). And if we are about paid app (e.g 1$) ??? 1$<40$<90$ what would you choose if you decide to live/pay bills from developing? It's an answer, Microsoft can't depend only 'old stager', they've got to attract young creative people. :)
Of course I just wrote what I think that MS do think... Personally, I would make a contest for everyone, gladly watching 80yrs old guy providing great app and receiving brand-new phone as a prize... :) but I have nothing to say in this case :(
