Lost almost a dollar per share, that's what Amazon did!

In fairness, Amazon's share price is ~$300 so $1 per share is relatively small compared to a company that has a $10 share price. It's all relative. Anyway, it's still Amazon's biggest loss ever. They probably need to refocus their efforts for a while and stop investing in so many directions at once.

9.3 million Lumias
$908 million for the Surface Pro 3
$23.20B in revenue

Well done MS, keep it up!

in other news, amazon decked it

IMO, the smartphone sales were weak. With that volume the market share will be just over 3% in Q3. And probably those 9.3 million Lumias include 1 million Nokia X devices.

The Surface Pro sales improved, but I don't think they're making money adding all the costs. With Windows 10 which sucks in hybrid devices and the iPad Pro, sales will tank again in 2015.

The server software is doing great, sales increased 10%, even though the cloud is growing much faster than expected, 128%.

This is the relative importance of the segments by gross margin:

Windows, Office for consumers: 26%
Hardware (Xbox, Surface): 3%
Phone Hardware: 3%
MSN, Bing, App Stores, Office 365 home: 2%
Enterprise software: 61%
Cloud and Enterprise services: 5%

Windows, Office, Enterprise software and Cloud Services, together, represent: 92% of the gross margin.
The consumer products are just a distraction for Microsoft. They should axe Xbox, Bing, phones, tablets, and embrace iOS and Android as the mobile platforms to distribute their lucrative enterprise services.

So I guess this is the real reason behind your doom and gloom posts about Windows 10 and now you've added speculation about sales numbers which explicitly state LUMIA sales and not nokia x devices. Starting to make sense now.....

Visa vis Amazon:

Being more of a "value investor" mindset than a "momentum investor" mindset, that just tells me the following:

"For every dollar that Amazon lost last quarter, an investor pays 300 dollars on the open market for their share of that negative profit." Rounding, of course.

A negative P/E is worrisome. A negative P/E on a company priced as though it were the most profitable company EVER that will be profitable FOREVER is SUPER worrisome.

Surface may be a bit player right now, but with Office/Windows revenue falling quarter after quarter that is a potential savior.

Haha. You are delusional. And iPad pro would flop if apple released it, it wont happen, people have talked about the iPad pro for 5 years now, but where is it?

Was going to start a thread on this, but I don't need to now.

Per latest business info today, the decision by MS to buy Nokia is hugely successful, even after the cost of purchase. As everyone's PC sales lag, the phone business is becoming more crucial.

If you want WP to survive, the purchase was a great move.
