With one swipe of the Windows 10 "pen"....Windows Phone market share doesn't matter anymore....

So just wondering if anyone else noticed that this one smart move by MS...by eliminating WP as an operating system has removed its handsets as a punching bag for the press...install base is really now ALL devices running Windows 10. Metrics that measure use by browser used will also probably be in favor of MS now if "Spartan" is the default browser used on ALL millions of Windows 10 devices. This could be a very good thing overall for the longevity and support of Windows phones and us Thoughts?

Doubt it.. Most sites on the web - at least those who matter - don't rely on reading the browser agent string in order to determine what device/OS is visiting their site. There are better, more reliable ways to do that. So market share of Windows 10 devices smaller than 8" (see what you did there, Microsoft? Heck..) can still easily be measured and pointed out.

They will still be a punching bag regardless of how the numbers are skewed. Smoke and mirrors is not the way to get market share.

Microsoft has to make people who are wanting a new phone choose a Windows phone. They have to create the desire by being the best choice for everyone, make them available to everyone, and have a award winning marketing team to showcase them. They have to change how they advertise these phones and appeal to the whole market not just rely on their name and try to convince Apple users Cortana is better than Siri.

The bulk of the world uses Android phone , and it's high time that they take Google head on. Cutesy gimmicky commercials don't cut it. This only appeals to those who are already using one.

The desire has to be created first then the devices have to be available secondly.

This is the way to change market share......

Kantar measures their figures by smartphone sales, not by ad-based metrics. So they'll still know if Windows 10 for phones was selling more or less then it does now.

I agree with MDMcAtee, that MS need to focus on Android users not Apple. MS & Apple do have a working relationship, which seems to be jointly against Google.
So they need to use all their effort and the working relationship to target Google. Christ, even Samsung is trying to move away from Android!
Attack Google, it's the easier target.

Apple fans will buy iThingys regardless as they are following the crowd.
Android users tend to be ones that go to a phone provider/phone seller asking for a phone to do a,b&c, they don't really care it's Google.
If MS can get these people to instead walk in to the store and ask for a WinPhone as they liked the features they'd seen on a ad. It's a game changer!

The marketing team point is such an important one! Come super Sunday, Microsoft should put out some amazing commercials that really show and highlight how great the devices, Cortana, universal apps and Windows 10 can be!
