Hello all. Been considering buying a tablet for a long time since my 1st gen Nook Color has gotten long in the tooth. Hadn't really considered a Win 8 tablet until recently, but I've found a couple for a fairly good deal.

I'm looking for a tablet to compliment my laptop and something that is a bit easier to carry around for media consumption (mainly video) and maybe some note taking in class. If I could I would like to spend anywhere up to $200 before tax.

First is the Acer Iconia W3, which I have seen available for $144. I know that the screen has pretty bad viewing angles since it was sold where I work, but never had a chance to play around with it much. Having full Windows also seems nice, but for me, not an absolute necessity.

Second is the Asus VivoTab RT. I've seen the 64GB version for $199. Since it has an IPS display I'm sure it'll be an improvement over the W3, but its also larger at 10 inches. Its not an absolute killer for me though.

So between the two, which would you guys recommend. I'm also open to other suggestions.

If it's to complement your laptop, I'd get the Asus VivoTab RT. The Acer Iconia W3 is pretty awful. All the reviews were spot-on with that device.

And don't forget that Teamviewer is available for Windows RT as well as Windows 8/8.1 So you can remote into your laptop, desktop, etc. and run traditional desktop apps that way.

I had my eye on the Acer Iconia W3 deal too, but it isn't a very good device... particularly at this time.

I'd recommend the Dell Venue 8 Pro which is currently on sale in various places for $200. If you can wait a few weeks, the Toshiba Encore 2 is coming out (starting at $200) and sounds like it will be a solid option. Both run full Windows 8.1 The main difference is that the DV8P supports an active stylus and comes with full MS Office.

I cannot recommend any devices running Windows RT.

Yeah I saw that the Venue 8 supports an active pen, which is an interesting option to have. What do you think of the Lenovo Miix 2 8? That's another one that I'm considering.
