Has anybody bought any of the Chinese import tablets sold on Ebay such as Cube iWork 8 or the Voyo A1? Are they any good?

I don't have firsthand experience, but a good rule of thumb is "you get what you pay for," and that could mean more than just specs, like quality, support, etc.

I know that it costs a fortune to send the tablet back from the UK if it develops a fault.

By "Chinese", I think you're just referring to "third tier" OEMs, which xandros9 explains pretty well. If not, well then the Lenovo Miix2 is pretty good. For cheap, you're either getting specs, build quality, or support, but never all 3.

I'm looking at getting a Toshiba Encore or a Lenovo Miix.

Those are reputable brands and do make solid devices for the most part.
I was thinking of the generic Chinese el cheapo tablets, not large companies which happen to be Chinese.

Not to mention that Toshiba is a Japanese company.

True but Toshiba sell their tablets all over the world, these Chinese tablets are probably only really aimed at the Far East market.

As a Lenovo miix 2 & edge owner I can't really say anything bad about their products. Build quality is very good, support ain't bad either and prices are affordable. If I were you I'd go for Lenovo..

Plus, if you go for the ultra cheap, Chinese tablets, who knows what kind of "extras" are hidden throughout the OS so that someone can track your online habits. Scary stuff.

I don't disagree, but I'm sure everyone will agree with me that the Chinese are hardly the only ones we need worry about when it comes to this. I won't discuss further because this is off-topic and if we continue we'll only descend into tin-foil hat territory with plenty of innuendo but little to no proof.

Ha ha ha ha I hear what you're saying.
Just to clarify, though...I wasn't trying to insult the Chinese. I was just thinking back to what happened a few months ago with those knock-off Samsung phones sold from China on eBay. I'm sure every technologically advanced government is doing something similar.

Hi Phil,

The Cube iWork 8 features look good. However, the design looks similar to the fake Samsung Tablet I have from China -- just a lot bigger -- which is awful. For example, the specifications/ features on the Tablet and packaging (I own) is completely different from what is on the Tablet. Furthermore, the battery doesn't last a full day.

The 8 inch Voyo Tablet is identical to my Mrs generic Chinese tablet, and it also suffers from short battery life. Also, the 10 inch Voyo Tablet looks like a cheap Surface knockoff. This suggests it could suffer from the same issues mentioned above. Therefore, I would get a Surface, Nokia Tablets or from any other established manufacturer.
