I like surface 3 but to me it seems overpriced or maybe i can't really figure out what is better in this new baytrail
i have seen a lot of low price 8 / 10 inch tablets with baytrail and 2 Gb of RAM
not sure what make the difference with surface 3

is just a design, brand thing?

It's not just "design", but build quality. Also an active digitizer, Microsoft's fantastic support, plus the abundance of ports (did these other tablets have minidisplay?).

The processor is the newest cherry trail processor, not bay trail. You just have to go play with one understand.

imo, the surface 3 is "overpriced " compared to what I have with the Acer Aspire Switch 11. $449 for an 11.6" tablet, 4gb ram, 128gb storage, full usb 3.0 in the tablet, full usb 2.0 on the included keyboard dock, active digitizer, core i3 processor, and more. But the S3 is a quality product.

You get what you pay for. Some people like Ferrari's, others like Skoda's. Both cars but I know which one I'd prefer to be driving. Personal preference.

I, too, feel the Surface 3 is a bit overpriced. If it had included the keyboard I think it would have hit a good price point.

I do understand the quality and build aspects. But, still. it's overpriced. Without a doubt.

I have a $200 Quad-core bay-trail tablet (Z3735F) 10" with 2GB Ram (DDR3) and 32gb SSD. Has micro-SD slot that
supports up to 128GB. This also includes a keyboard very similar to the keyboard on the Surface 3.
Came with a year of Office 2013 365 and free upgrade to Windows 10.

The tablet is very responsive and quick and can even play games like Planetside 2.

So, I understand the processor is about 18 months old, but if they can sell it for $200.00....is there really enough to justify the
$430.00 price difference (when you include the keyboard on the Surface 3)?? I say not. But, then, who am I? :)

in italy surface 3 base price is 600? if you wont the 4Gb model is 700? no keyboard and no pen
basic surface pro now is around 740?

is suface 1 keyborad compatible with this new now and viceversa?

webkrawler wich tablet do you own?

IRULU W1002 (usually listed as Walknbook or W1000) Windows 8.1 10" tablet.

Ebay has them as low as $199.00 right now.

The quad-core in my tablet is 1.33ghz and can boost to 1.83gz.
The quad core in the Surface 3 is a 1.6gz and can boost to 2.3gz.

Yes, there is a performance gain but it's not all the significant. Unless you really need the power.

seen surface 3 in shop and the screen near a surface 3 pro is very different
on surface 3 is not that bright and you can see color changing even moving a little on side
i thought that at that price, since hardware is not top specs, seen would have vivid color and great viewing angle but is not

Actually, the Surface 3 has a better screen than the Surface Pro 3.

Here's anandtech review of the screen (with the Surface 3 with 2GB RAM):
Display - The Surface 3 Review

could it be that view angles are much worst?
i can't find any specs about that

because that is what i noticed, moving on the right / left of device i couldn't see screen as well as the SP3

Probably a TN based display panel. Those things are downright horrible. I've always refused to buy those kinds of displays as life is too short.

Before we say Surface is overpriced, we should consider the unique features of Surface: pen-support, kickstand, full-sized USB port, and build quality. There isn't many devices with similar features now.

The fact is, even if other manufacturers make a device with exactly the same features, the price would not be lower than Surface. And some are even more expensive (yes, the Macbooks) with less features.

If you read the comments in this thread you will see that we ARE considering the features of the Surface... which are no longer unique to the Surface. Active digitizer, full-sized USB ports, build quality.

I separate the kickstand out as not being a feature because it is primarily there to support the use of the keyboard rather than for tablet usage. Microsoft never advertises a Surface without the keyboard cover and doesn't even offer a cover that doesn't have a keyboard.

Other 2-in-1 hybrid tablets are able to accommodate keyboard usage without the need for a kickstand so the kickstand is more of a solution to a particular problem (that others offer different solutions) than as a standalone feature.

Do you have any data to support that claim? How do you know that the price would not be lower than the Surface?

I use the keyboard on my Surface about 3% of the time and the kickstand about 97% of the time, so the kickstand for me has almost nothing to do with the keyboard as much as just daily use.

The price seems about right. Of course I always feel like the keyboard should be included, little disappointed to have to buy a new Surface AND a $100 keyboard but am more than happy to pay for the quality!

Come on, kick stand is a nice feature welcomed by most users. If you think the kick stand is not important to you, then you are simply giving up the chance of using the device as a laptop. So it defeat the purpose of considering a 2 in 1 tablet.

So why don't you just suggest some brilliant devices with similar features of surface 3?

It is not meaningful to compare surface 3 with some very low end tablets. Be realistic please.

Yes, the kickstand is a great feature.

However, the keyboard case for my IRULU has a unique magnetic locking "kickstand" type feature and I pretty much carry my IRULU in it's keyboard case all of the time.

My Nokia Lumia 2520 (yes, I know it's a Windows RT tablet) I carry around in a case that also has the same function as the kickstand. Who carries these tablets around without cases??

The digitizer is a nice feature however the Dell Venue Pro 8 supports a digitizer type pen and it's cost is not higher than other tablets of its size and class that don't support a pen. No one is expecting MS to sell the Surface 3 for $99.00. But, even with all the features, it should include the keyboard or be $100-$150.00 less.

The kickstand is a nice feature but it isn't a leading feature that would bring someone to choose a Surface over the competition. I have owned Surface devices in the past. I know the benefits of the kickstand...and its limitations.

I have an Acer Aspire Switch 11. A very well made device with 11.6" Gorilla glass, Core i3 processor, 4GB RAM / 128GB SSD (not eMMC) storage, full-sized USB 3.0 port, microHDMI, microSD, charging port, USB 2.0 in the keyboard (that's included), active digitizer... all for $449.

I'm sure someone is going to stop reading at the "Acer" and claim that it is "a very low end tablet".

Acer Aspire Switch 11 might be the best all-around value I've seen in the last 18 months (among PCs, at least); incredibly competent and versatile device.

That said, I'm tempted by the Surface 3's aspect ratio, slightly higher PPI, slightly lower weight, slightly better pen performance and integrated kickstand. Are those slight gains "worth" the performance hit and higher price? For me they would be, but YMMV. Then again I have no money for more devices now so it's very easy to pontificate :)
