I would like to get a gaming laptop with good battery life. I'm thinking about getting the upcoming HP Pavilion Gaming Notebook. I'm wondering if the Surface Book with dGPU could function as a decent gaming laptop. I haven't read anything about how it handles cooling during gaming. Any thoughts? The HP would certainly be cheaper but the Surface Book gets better battery life, perhaps. I also prefer 16:9 over 3:2. Any thoughts?

Go with the HP, you get a quad-core i5 instead of the Surface Book's dual-core i5, standard 1080p screen (Surface has a weird 3000x2000 display which no game I know of supports), 4 GB VRAM vs 2 GB VRAM, upgradable RAM and HDD.

The HP's 950 isn't as powerful as the Surface Book's 960, but since you'll be playing on a 1080p screen instead of 2000p you'll see better framerates at native resolution.

Thanks. I'll go with the HP unless there is no touchscreen. If no touch screen, I'll look for a gaming PC that does.

I want a touchscreen and integrated bluray drive. For some reason there is no gaming laptop that has both of these features. I wonder if there is some technical reason. There are gaming laptops with touchscreens and DVD drives; and gaming laptops with bluray drives but no touchscreen.
