The XBM fiasco is an irritating nightmare. Nearly all of us who knew life as WP7 users want Zune support back.
You can directly let MS know this by adding your support to the cause via uservoice:
The uservoice suggestion is gaining traction (with thousands of votes already), so register your vote and spread the word! The more votes the better.

Zune ran circles around iTunes. Why'd they decide to get rid of it? The stigma surrounding the brand because of the failure of the mp3 player? So what. It was still EXCELLENT software. Following that by releasing such an inferior successor (actually no successor at all) just makes no sense. I sat around and waited for months for them to get around to announcing some major upgrade to the media syncing experience, or for XBM to magically become Zune. Didn't happen. Bring it back.

I'm really thrilled that this has gained so many votes. Thanks for keeping this alive Simon.

Last week they finally 'declined' the Zune uservoice suggestion and hid it from the Suggestion Box app. Its still visible on the web and has amassed over 16,500 votes and 1000 comments:
It's been over two years and the state of Xbox Music is worse than it has ever been. Each update is touted as the time they'll address our issues, but they just get worse. The new thing is the 'bi-weekly updates' but they've broken so much in this time they'll likely stop with that before they get back to looking at any of the Zune functionality that's gone.
Unfortunately I don't think the XBM team have the same visionary prowess as the original Zune one. There just doesn't seem to be a clear direction XBM is going, except this narrow minded stream everything to your mobile device stuff.
To keep our concerns on the agenda, I have an xbox music uservoice suggestion to ask for better syncing support:
Please add your support if you still miss Zune!

Seems pretty pointless to me. Zune isn't coming back. Yes it was better but I'd rather vote for things that will actually help the development team make the current app better. Xbox music isn't going away.

I just attempted to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 today using the windows phone desktop app after seeing Zune no longer worked with it. The best way to describe this was CRASH AND BURN.
I got sync errors saying some songs could not be synced.
I got a USB error saying unknown device after it already recognized it.
Lastly the app no longer recognized my phone.
I never had this problem with Zune. Balmer if you are the one who made Zune go away you are a jack ***.
I now have a phone that I will have to spend perhaps hours trying to get updated when it was a matter of minutes with Windows Phone 7.x
