Of all the accessories for the Elite x3 the HP Elite x3 Lap Dock is certainly the coolest. The term 'mobile extender' is an accurate description when you realize how it works, but it is more easily thought of as a folio or light laptop.
The Lap Dock is a 12.5-inch 1080p (FHD) LED display with a keyboard, 47 WHr battery and some ports and speakers.
It has no processor. It has no RAM. It has no storage.
Instead, users will connect to the Mobile Extender using the Elite x3 and wireless Continuum (or wired if preferred). Since Windows 10 Mobile can scale-up to a full PC, the Mobile Extender becomes like an ultra-light laptop.

Specifications
1. For multi-screen Continuum experience, the HP Elite x3 must be connected to the HP Elite x3 Lap Dock through a Miracast Wi-Fi or USB-C™ connection to the HP Elite x3 Lap Dock’s integrated display.
2. HP Workspace software update for Windows 10 required and planned in a future release. Subscription required. Corporate application must be licensed on corporate network for virtualization.
3. When the HP Elite x3 and HP Elite x3 Lap Dock are wirelessly connected, the connectors on the Dock will have limited functionality. The USB-C™ ports will support input devices only (e.g. mouse). The headphone jack’s receive function will work for listening to audio, but the microphone will not operate. The micro HDMI port will still work normally.

I wish it had touch screen, so it could also function as a regular tabled. I'm still interested in the device as-is though.
There's one thing that worries me:
Even though HP claims it's a "premium notebook experience without the notebook price tag", I've seen some pretty steep prices. According to WindowsCentral, the price difference between the complete set (phone+desk dock) including or exluding the lap dock will be 1199 - 729 = 470 euro!
And this is only the bundle price! Bought seperatly, the price might go up even more!
A simple notebook, like the HP stream will set you back about 230 euro.
470 euro will buy you a somewhat more decent model, like the HP 205 G5,
These aren't the greatest laptops ever, but you will be able to use these to use the Windows 10 built-in continuum function to use your phone in the same way you would yse the lap dock.
I think 470 euro (or even more!) is a lot of money for a device specifically tailored to be used with my specific phone. For a device I probably need to throw away once my phone reaches end of life.
Do you guys think the Lap Dock will become very popular at this price?
