Hi,

I have a HP Steam 7 and the battery life is ridiculously short.

Full charge in the morning.. it seems to hold the charge "ok" until 6-7pm with very vey light usage. And then when the battery reaches around 50% is goes down hill and it's out of charge at the end of the day.

I would way I did not even use it for about 2 hours total.

Someone else experience the same issue? :unhappysweat:

Yes. I have found two work arounds a that help dramatically: 1) If you put the Stream to "sleep" make sure the volume is set to zero. Apparently the audio driver will not totally turnoff if set to anything other than mute. 2) I always turn the device "off" when not in use. It restarts very quickly - about as fast as resuming from sleep. Under either one of these conditions my battery life is six to seven hours. Still not great but much better than two to three.

Good luck

Hi,

I'll give the mute sound a try. But having to power it down is bugging me. I use my it for quick search, when I'm done, I just like to put it aside until the next time I need it. I know the startup time is fairly quick, but it seems unnecessary steps for a tablet.

:/
EDIT: Full charged at 9am. 2pm: 31% left. Use about 20 mins MAX. Mute set to on... I did not try to shutdown the tablet after each use yet.

I think I'll be looking for a replacement, sadly.
Note; it's running Win10, but battery life never been better on Win 8.1

I think something might be wrong with that particular piece of yours. Mine can last out about 6-7 hours pretty easily and I even use Visual Studio on this thing. When did you buy it? I normally shut it down when not using it. Shut down takes about 3-4 seconds max and start up is the same as well. Like, all you have to do is a swipe, and 2 taps to shut it down and to power it up, just press the power button.

I've heard of a lot of people having issue with battery drain, and mine seemed to drain pretty quickly when I first got it. Mine usually lasts up to 3 days on standby now if I'm only using it lightly, but I couldn't explain why. The one thing I would recommend is looking into Sleep Study, which is a built-in diagnostic tool for Windows 8.1. Here's the info:

Sleep Study Diagnostic Report - Generate in Windows 8.1

I installed Windows 10162 via iso install, and finally it is lasting a long time on stand by. I had tried everything that had been suggested to conserve battery, and nothing really worked. I left my tablet on stand by for about 4 hours and I lost 1% of power on this new Windows. Finally! They were not kidding when they said battery life was improved in this build.
