If you want "stunning" buy a N8 or N808 or even better a actual camera otherwise all you will ever get is "it'll do".

Well, my statement assumed a baseline of available smartphones; both the iPhone 5 and the GS3 (as well as the aforementioned Pureview 808) best these results handily. That said, I generally agree with you. A DSLR is for the shots you need.

That said, it's not a bad thing to have a good camera available for the shots you don't expect.

Actually I have seen a number of reviews saying the 8X beats the GS3 when it comes to the camera and its pretty much around the same as the iPhone 5.

But all of these are fine for a phone camera but none are going to be amazing because of their tiny sensors etc which is where the 808 is great because they increased the sensor size which is very important.

Well, considering i have all three, i suppose i am most suitable to judge.

iPhone5 > 8X > SGS3 in daylight

iPhone5 > SGS3 > 8X in lowlight

8X > SGS3 > iPhone 5 in macro.

Here are some rushed photos I took early this morning. I want to take some more tomorrow including some with the FFC and also try the video recording.

I took this picture today in a bowling alley. I thought it came out pretty good considering the low light. One thing I'll say is that I changed the ISO setting to 400. In auto, it would probably use the highest iso of 800 and that would cause lots of noise. For those that don't know, lower ISO number = less noise, but you can only take pics in bright light or sunlight. high ISO = lots of noise, but you can take pictures in low light.

I think I might take it back today. It's restarting loads, Kindle doesn't work, the low light shots are rubbish.

I'm not sure if I'll get a replacement or give the 920 a go (if they have any). Might just get a refund and wait for a while.

Kindle app has been fixed. Delete the one you have and re-install and you'll be all set.

The camera is another story of course. If you want a comparison, check the 920 pictures thread. I posted a few there on page 13.

An example of an HTC 8X photo. My experience seems to echo most people's...day time snaps are perfectly acceptable, sometimes pretty impressive...night time pictures lacking something. And yes, HTC need to sort the flash/focus issue!

Word of warning: I am not fluent in photography at all, but in the below pictures, I was playing around to see if I can get the "23rd street" in focus. The first image is the default, while the second one was the result of going down the list of settings and tweaking them "one or two" style like an optometrist. Flash was off in both of these. With a little tweaking, it seems there could be some use for this camera yet:
