No brainer just check the spec sheet of the Lumia 640xl over 730:

13mp over 6.7MP
5.7 screen estate against 4.7
Windows 10 ready phone
Better price point
4G/3G variants with dual sim
More colour options including cyan

730

it's smaller
4.7" display over 5.7"
Windows 10 ready
wireless charging, don't know if the XL has it.
(it does have a cyan option actually)

I just don't want a phablet.

I just wish it had a 1080p display. At that size, the images won't be as crisp. I don't think it's a make or break deal, but still... 1080P, and I would have thrown more money at it! Let's see what the flagship device is :).

730 doesn't have Qi Wireless Charging capability, 735 does.

EDIT: The Cyan 730 available in selected country through. My country doesn't have Cyan color in 730

Because it using Snapdragon 400 so it doesn't support 1080p display, although 410 does support it (why MS not using 410 instead 400 on 640XL??)

You can use an additional cover, it has the pins where as the 640XL does not nor is the battery "Qi Wireless ready". The replaceable wireless charging shell in the 735 is an improvement over then bulky covers and often were not that appealing with exposed corners / sides.

It is all about margins, it would be sufficiently cheaper to order the Snapdragon 400 SOC in greater bulk as opposed to a small batches of the 400 and 410 SOC.

I have checked both 535 and 730, but with taking battery advantage. I had choosen 640 XL and it satisfies me all these times. Been happily on this device, ignoring my BlackBerry Z30. I am using it a primary device. The screen is perfect for my eyes. :) Though I have doubt with choosing 730 or 535 but this 640 made me go instantly. Oh well, you receive Office 365 Personal subscription too. :D

640 XL - 730

Screen size___5.7 - 4.7
PPI_________259 - 316
Display______IPS LCD - OLED

Both of them have the same features only display technology 730 is better and for PPI sure the bigger screen size have the lower PPI.

I'll buy 640 XL next month ... I love it

730 : small and comfortable in your hand, easy in easy out of your pocket
670 XL : satisfied viewing content on big screen

that's all the difference

I had a Lumia 1520 (1080p) and replaced it with a 640 XL (720p). I don't see why my phone needs to have the same resolution as my TV set. :) I rarely benefited from the higher resolution of the 1520, but I benefit daily from the better battery life of the 640 XL (in part aided by it not being quite as powerful as the 1520).

Ain't the phone too big to handle??

Depends on your hands, I suppose. I find it a good size. 5" phones feel too small in my hands.

I don't understand why people make definitive statements about whether a phone is a good size for everyone or not. Everyone is different. I'm tall (6'1") and broad shouldered (48cm wide). I mostly wear loose-fit mountain-style cycling shorts that have big, deep pockets. Tiny phones like the Lumia 730 just bounce around in there and feel awkward, whereas the Lumia 640 XL is a very good size for them as it's braced in there a little better (but is still dead easy to get in and out of my pocket). I have long fingers and they cramp on anything smaller than a 640 XL (the Lumia 1520 is an even better size for me, but I prefer the better frequency support, better battery life, and dual-SIM nature of the 640 XL dual-SIM LTE).

And there are other differences of course too. Much better frequency support for the 640 XL in many variants being one of them.

IMO, 730 still stands better than 640 XL..my reasons..

1. OLED Screen with clear black display over LCD..
2. I prefer square cornered phone than rounded one on any given day...730 looks premium, thanks to it's design..
3. 4.7 is decent screen size, not too big not too small..
4. WXM works well on device and guess what with recent registry hacks I have finally enabled "Phablet" mode in 730 and it did add extra awesomeness :)
