why does the clock time split in two on my lumia 640 close screen?

when my lumia 640 closes the screen - it goes dark and the time comes on, like 18.00 for example.
then shortly afterwards those numbers split in two or more. and the time becomes unreadable. its obviously a glitch but I can not solve it. does anyone have any idea how to fix this.
