A phone is no where near the same as a desktop OS. The desktop OS has infinite hardware configurations it needs to run...the OS these phones released with was made for 2 hardware configs. Lumia 950 and 950XL

I'll take a look at the custom firmware, however I refuse to believe it's normal for the phone to disable the WiFi radio if it can't keep a connection to a 5Ghz network. If my router is truly a problem then, at the very least the phone should drop the connection, and let you connect to another...

Can you post your issue in a thread I made about 5Ghz WiFi...haven't gotten a lot of support in that thread, but I've seen a lot of similar issues across these forums. Sharing what your router brand & model would be helpful as well...
