How many days worth of data can band 2 store?

So this is a hypothetical scenario, with some truths for me personally.

My phone has just died, and I've bought a Nexus 6p to replace it. For a few days I've got no phone. Now imagine if I've not synced my band to somewhere else.. How many days worth of data, I.e. Sleep steps and heart rate could it store before it purges that data or freezes or if that even happens at all!

In reality I've synced it to my iPad whilst I'm without a phone...

This would be useful to know when on a hiking trip or something. :unhappysweat:

All I can find is that it has 64 MB storage... No idea how much of that is taken up with the OS or any estimates on how much data a "typical" day takes up.

My gut feeling is one week, but that's based on nothing really. LOL

Remember the more functions you engage, the quicker the storage would get used up. Hiking with Run Tile + GPS would take up significantly more data than just passive step counting.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to sync data. Worst case scenario, if you can't sync for some reason at least you'll have the last X amount...

Devbent did reply on another thread about this. From what I remember there is enough storage for 10 days or 2 weeks. So you could go on holiday without your mobile and the band would still be able to store all the data.

Thank you for remembering my previous post! A large part of my charter here is to help create a knowledge base within the community.

Since my last post, we ran some experiments to see what it'd take to fill up a log file simulating typical usage patterns, and we've determined that you can get over a month of normal usage before the log file is filled up. Caveats exist, "typical" usage involves 3 or so runs per week, though even with twice that number there won't be a problem.

I've only had a Band 1, but I've gone 27 days between syncs and it didn't lose any data.

This question is also of concern to me. I'm going to be biking in Europe for 3 months and will use the band to track my rides as well as giving me the usual beats and so on. I've got the GPS set for (what's it called) efficient use (less frequent points). But I noticed that the band wouldn't always sync to the phone so I chatted with support about it. According to him the phone won't sync to the band UNLESS the phone is also connected to the internet. Where I live on the border of Guatemala I'm not connected to the internet all the time. For me, ambling through Europe without a dataplan and without a laptop that is extremely bad news.

But I've a related question the support guy didn't know. As you are adding your data into the buffer on the ride (or whatever workout) if the 64mg is used up does the old stuff simply roll out and the new stuff pushes the stack in the buffer down? And a related question (although I don't know if it's necessary). How can you find out where in the 64mg is your last sync? Or even if your 64mg is filled or how much space it has? How does the band handle the data in history and current data as it's being generated?

Good to see it can store at least a week. I'm doing a 7 day bike ride through the mountains. I won't have internet, and I also need to conserve battery. I'll have my band (if I decide to bring it) a Delorme inReach (for navigation and emergency tracker), my iPhone. I'll have a small battery to recharge it but that is mainly for the gps, maybe I can charge the band once.

My plan is to only have it do daily heart rate and sleep. I won't use the bike activity, so I need it to last 3-4 days on a charge.

From what I remember the Band team did to tests on how long it would last if there wasn't any syncing. I think they got to about 3 or 4 weeks before they gave up and said it's good enough. So it will deffinatly last a week I personally have gone that long before.

As to the few months that may be pushing it. I'd definitely try and sync every 2 or so weeks.

If you are a fanatic, you can try a play on the old bicycle generator like a Human Creations Bicycle Dynamo USB Charger Kit. I don't have any experience with these new generators to recharge phones and cell phone batteries, just know they exist. All I used my generator for was to power my bike lights at night.

I looked at Dynamos and also Solar, but it seems for a week long trip, for weight, costs, and capacity, basic battery bank seems like the best option.

Some battery banks have a really small integrated PV, which could be nice for an emergency. While the PV is really slow, an hour of PV would probably provide my inReach more than enough power send/receive a message.
