I was choosing between 650 and 640 XL and I decided for 640 xl and I bought it (believe it or not) yesterday :p
I have been using this phone for one day but so far I like it very much, captured a few nice moving pictures, I just installed Windows 10 Mobile on it and it looks gorgeus so yeah I have just positive things to say so far :p

Here, I took some for you :winktongue:

The battery life mostly depends on the brightness - I have brightness on auto and taking in mind that I was doing quite a lot of set ups and exploring the phone itself it burned about 30-35% per day which means it could last for about 2 and 1/2 or maybe even 3 days as Arizona Willie already said.

As it goes for Windows 10 Mobile - it is working perfectly, I just highly recommend hard resetting of the phone once you install the update

Just purchased a 640 XL yesterday and so far I am very happy with this phone. Installing the updates was a lesson in patience but well worth the effort

I wanted a good mid range windows phone with the features I had on my old Lumia 925, which design wise was a really nice phone. Anyway, I have a 650 which is also a nice device, but doesn't have a compass sensor, which is what I wanted and the 640 XL does.
So far a good experience with the 640 XL today. Hopefully I will have this until Microsoft releases their next device next year.
Hopefully whatever OEMS release windows handsets other than Microsoft will have glance and DDTW as features.

I don't know if you have already took your decision.
I bought the phone at July 22 2015.( My phone will have a birthday in 3 days.
The phone is just perfect 👌🏼.
I love it.
It's the reason to have my Samsung Galaxy s5 and my iPhone 5s in their boxes.
I don't have ever used the 650 but I love the 640 xl.
P.S.1
choose the LTE version with dual sim it's better.
The 1st week was too uncomfortable for my hand to use a 5.7" display but now I can't use any smaller phone.
P.S.2
The 640 is very cheap phone right now and I have bought 3 but If you want to listen me go for the 640 xl.
P.S.3
And ofc use the fast ring.It works like a charm.

I've been using 640 XL for about two months and I must say that 640 XL's camera has been the main disappointment for me. See this thread -- http://forums.windowscentral.com/mi...y-pics-out-microsoft-camera-lumia-640-xl.html, I provided some pictures there. To be exact, it's not the camera itself, but crappy Microsoft Camera app, which applies too much noise reduction to low-light images, and there's no option to turn it off. However, currently you can edit registry to save DNG files, but messing around with huge files is very far from convenience. All of the above applies to Windows 10 Mobile. I see no reason for using WP 8.1, since MS seems to actively force users to leave it, see Skype case, which won't be available on WP since November, if I remember right.

Yep.
The camera itself isn't very good.I can say is stable but it has too much noise.
But I will recommend to change the res from 16:9 to 4:3 and see the pics in any pc with good rez.

Well, I don't really care for megapixels themselves. I'm completely okay with 10 megapixels in 16:9. I guess I wouldn't mind if it were 6 or 8 megapixels camera in 640 XL. Pictures are almost never viewed in actual size anyway (according to my experience, of course). What I care for is the color reproduction (which involves bigger sensor and better lens), and when you shoot in low-light conditions in auto mode to JPEG with 640 XL, the results do suck big time.
