Has anybody successfully hard reset their 950?

My wife tried to restore a backup to her 950, and it's gotten into a bizarre state where it boots, and then goes to the app screen showing 5 apps. You can pull down action center, but if you try and run Settings (to get to reset it) it says it needs an app from the app store and goes back to the 5 apps.

Both she and I have tried the hard reset instructions using the keys, but we can never get the exclamation mark to come up. If I use software restore, it will sometimes see the phone, but then it says it has no software for it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the initial boot process was interrupted during the app install. I have used the hard reset works fine though I was able to get to the option.
The recovery tool likely hasn't been updated to support the phone yet so that will not be helpful for a few weeks.
Assuming you purchased it from the carrier they should have no problem replacing it as your well within the typical 14 day grace period.
