Glad it worked out for you. While the newer phones might lack the solid feel of the old 920/1020, etc. they are miles easier to repair, with far less chance of breaking things.

Just how easy is it to replace the screen? If only the glass is cracked, can that part be replaced or does it require an entire display assembly with LCD/digitizer plus the glass etc.?

It seems that B2X uses Palcotech for repairs, and the Palcotech website estimates $259 to repair a "broken screen" on the 950.

From everything I have read, you have to replace the LCD and glass as one unit. I don't like that design, but apparently bonding the glass to the LCD makes the phones thinner. I got lucky and found a used screen in perfect condition that had some of the attached parts already attached so it was easier than it would normally be.

You need to replace the glass and screen together. There are places that sell just the glass, but it is basically impossible to separate and rebond the glass. You need to buy the front housing with the screen and glass. It won't be as easy as it was for dacarter77, but it isn't hard. You just need to take your time, and anything you take off the old screen you put on the new one.

Is it possible to find OEM/Microsoft replacement screens? My 950 still works fine, and I also have the 950XL I got with the BOGO, but the cracked screen on the 950, which isn't nearly as bad as most I've seen, bugs the heck out of me. I'm not sure it's $259 worth of bugging me, but still...

Used to have it here, but I don't see it listed anymore. It was $180 IIRC.

I could not find the screen on the normal web sites like etradesupply.com, but there are some on ebay. Hard to tell if they are OEM or not. These are the pitfalls of owning a rare phone I guess. I now have a protective case (it will cover up the beautiful $45 mozo chrome/leather case) and tempered glass screen protector on order to help keep this from happening again.

Just a heads up the mozo cases are a little thicker than the original back cover, and some cases don't fit well.

Thanks, yes, I ended up digging out the original back and installed it. The new case fits better over it than the Mozo. Even though I liked the Mozo, I'm liking this new black case, nice change. It's shiny on the sides and matt black on the back. So far so good.
