Has anyone else noticed the camera app only goes up to 16MP on the L950?

The camera app version is: 2016.1021.11.0
OS build 14965.1001
I noticed this a few builds back, so I think its the Camera App that's doing this. When I go into the apps settings, it only shows 16MP as the highest it goes. I'm pretty sure the last few versions before this allowed 20MP, which is what the phones main camera is.
Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just my phone?

That's for 16:9 aspect ratio and this is true for all phones. In order to get the full boat of MP you need to set it at 4:3.

Sorry to add confusion here, but now in 4:3 I only get 8, or 19MP options plus the live images, 16mp has been removed, 16mp does only now show in 16:9 option. ??

That's how it works. The maximum you'll get on 16:9 is 16MP while the full 19 is only available at 4:3. The 8MP option is the "PureView" setting that Nokia has been using since the 808. Not all internet connections are reliable and sometimes cellular data is limited so you're given the choice to have a compressed file which easier to upload and share plus the data savings.

I could have sworn blind I had the 8, 16, and 19MP options in the 4:3 setting, but I must be incorrect, since the update I have 8 or 19MP in 4:3, this is what I meant in my previous post, 16MP has been REMOVED as an option in 4:3.

But if you have a resolution of 19MP over a surface that is 4:3, then the only way to get to 16MP with the same surface area is to lower the resolution, meaning using compression. So if that's a goal then just use 8MP instead.

The "option" to get lower than 19MP is tied to the size of the surface you want to capture. Crop that surface (image) and you need less data, meaning fewer pixels. That's how you get from 19MP to 16MP.

So if you want an image quality that is between 8 and 19MP for a 4:3 image then perhaps investigate if there are third-party apps that will compress before saving.

Alternately, try ProShot which lets you adjust to a wider range of MP captures within the settings. It won't give you more on the high end (or not very much more, depends on aspect ratio)... You can only fit so many MP into that rectangle at 4:3 or 16:9 out of a round sensor and camera gives you the highest choice. ProShot will match the highest choice and give you more intermediate steps.

On my 20MP Lumia 1520 I get 5MP oversample + 16MP Jpgs at 16:9 and 5MP oversample + 18MP Jpgs at 4:3. (This in Camera.)

Proshot gives me:
At 16:9 I can shoot any one of 4MP, 5MP, 8MP, 16MP
At 4:3 I can shoot any one of 0.3MP, 3MP, 5MP, 10MP, 19MP
At 1:1 I can shoot any one of 2MP, 4MP, 7MP

Thanks but you have missed my point totally, I was merely stating that I thought the 16MP option was now no longer an option in the 4:3 setting since updating the phone but before the update it was an option, but thanks for all the info you posted.

You may have seen 3 choices because of changing aspect ratio. So... Maybe you looked at 16:9 with the choices for 8+16 and then switched to 4:3 and saw 8+19 and didn't recall switching the aspect ratio.

If you ever had that choice (4:3 with 8MP only, 8MP+16MP or 8MP+19MP) no one else ever saw it. Apparently it was something only you ever had. Since forever there has only been two sizes available per aspect ratio.

Others here have seen your point and explained what it is that they have seen. If you can replicate it again, please get a screen shot because that is a true unicorn sighting.
