Surface volume down does not work

Hi

I have a brand new surface and the volume down button on the edge of the surface does not turn the device down, it's not sticking it just does not work. Could this be a software glitch?

Do you know the left side of the volumn button turns it up. The right side turns it down ?

Yes I do, the volume buttons which I am talking about is the one near the power button. The volume up works but turn sound down does not work. any hints?

Yeah, exchange your machine. This sounds like a hardware issue.

No hints. I suggest you exchange it

Does it work if you right click on the volume shortcut in the taskbar? There are more then one way to adjust volume check all possible ways to better troubleshoot.

But if the physical button does not work, why bother troubleshooting beyond that? It is clearly a hardware issue unless the OP somehow magically disabled only part of the hardware button (and I don't even think that's possible).

It is a hardware problem and Microsoft are going to replace it
