As many of you may have figured out by now, "Rapid Hybrid Drive" is a hard drive working in conjunction with an SSD (the latter is used as cache memory) using Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT).

Read more about SRT: SSD Caching - Intel Z68 Chipset & Smart Response Technology (SSD Caching) Review

That said, SRT limits the size of the cache memory to 64 GB (at least through the interface), so how is Microsoft able to use the entire 128 GB SSD for cache memory?

Probably the real question is, why is MS using an old slow spinny drive, cloaked by an SSD ?
