Touch Screen Becoming Mostly Unresponsive

Hi everyone, for the second time this past week I've had a problem with my surface. My touch screen becomes mostly unresponsive while using Internet Explorer (actually the whole tablet for that matter). Upon further inspection it seems multiple touch presses are constantly being registered on the left and right side of the touch screen.
How do I know? I see big round dots appearing on the screen (like big rain drops are falling).
The first time I just rebooted the Surface using the power button. Everything was fine afterwards. The second time I put it to sleep with the power button and woke it up again after 15 seconds. Everything was fine again as well. Has anyone experienced this problem?
I've had my Surface since launch day and use it only in bed (while lying on my back). It's never been dropped and just sits in a cabinet when not in use. I've only restarted/shut down the Surface a couple of times (maybe 5 times).

I saw this problem on an Asus Vivo tab at the store, it was stuck in a pinch to zoom mode.

My suggestion would be reboot it, get the updates that are coming out today and see if that fixes it.

I hate to admit it being the Surface fan that I am but I've noticed this lately as well. Been much less responsive than previously. Hopefully the recent patch will address it, but my issues have been similar to yours.

Good to know I'm not the only one who experienced this... :unhappy:
But I installed the updates from yesterday so I'll see if this pops up again, hopefully not...

The same exact thing happened to me with my launch-day Surface RT. At first, the 'touch cascade' (as I was calling it) would happen every couple days or so. Suspending the device and resuming would clear it. Then, it started happening every day, and then multiple times a day... eventually every other swipe from the right side would result in a cascade.

Towards the 'end', I also noticed that touch precision on the right side of the tablet was diminishing, and I had trouble activating buttons on the right (i.e. the delete button in the mail program).
Thinking that the something in the firmware got hosed, I did a reset on the tablet. When it came back, it seemed to be fixed. "Great" I thought... until I started reconfiguring the tablet back to how I had things set before the wipe. Now, when using the split keyboard, it was impossible to get the 'p' to register. Each press directly over the 'p' would register either to the right or left, never triggering 'p'.

This was really started to smell like a hardware problem...

Before I gave up though, I figured I would try to calibrate the touch screen (get to it via the control panel). I had limited success with this, after calibrating a good dozen times or so. I could never get it to work perfectly. I could get the 'p' to be recognized, but then wouldn't pick up certain swipes, etc. In the end, I wound up sending it back to Microsoft for a replacement.
