ATT will unlock off-contract Lumia 1020?

yea sure getting download average 10 and upload about 2 in nyc. and on 4g getting about 6d and 3 up

Is that on par with other T-Mobile "official" offerings like the 925 in NYC? Also, I'm assuming Wi-Fi Calling still does not work correct?

WiFi calling isn't working. I'm getting better speed test result today. Gettin about 17d and 10u. So pretty on par with everything else

I have a friend on facebook who is very reliable and he is promoting the unlocking of the 1020.

So I guess it's possible now

Just got off the phone with AT&T. The rep provided the code and waited on line to make sure I could make and receive a call. 15 minutes process. He said it was the first one he had done. I am showing LTE on the phone for T-Mobile. Will run some tests later after finishing set up and configuration. Very painless all in all.

i think that its the average here in the city. i was averaging 16-20d and 10-12u when i had the tmobile s4/

yea I was getting those speeds yesterday. Today I'm getting 17up 10down. I called T-Mobile and they said they were having trouble yesterday with signal.

So for all intents and purposes, the only thing missing from the AT&T unlocked version using a T-Mobile sim card is the absence of Wi-Fi calling. Essentially, all the other T-Mobile "bells & whistles" are present and working as it would on their flagship Windows Phone, the Nokia 925. Correct?

Is there any possibility WiFi Calling could/would be added via an update from Nokia on the 1020 or is that a pipe-dream until if/when T-Mobile gets their official 1020 hardware offering?

Maybe they're still having trouble ;). I get 25-32 down in the Phoenix area.

Phoenix metro population: 4.2 million
New York City metro population: 18.8 million

Phoenix is a little village in comparison thus much less network congestion. ;)

I think you can add "Data Sense" to the features absent from Nokia 925. I'm in the same boat trying to decide to get the 925 or 1020...decisions decisions...

I live in San Jose, CA. I am using L810. I just ran speedtest.net on my phone two times at 8:05AM, getting:
Run 1: Download: 21.19Mbps. Upload 0.36Mbps. 98ms ping. The server is in San Jose.
Run 2: Download: 18.30Mbps. Upload 0.37Mbps. 635ms ping. The server is in San Jose.
Run 3: Download: 24.48Mbps. Upload 2.44Mbps. 84ms ping. The server is in San Jose.

Just got done speaking with ATT support via chat and got my unlock code. I was surprised it was so easy. I thought I might have to argue that I bought the phone outright even more. Only mentioned it once.

I rrecommend the 1020 if u don't need WiFi calling. But to answer the previous question yes everything is working except WiFi calling and data sense

so let me ask again - how do you know which carrier frequency your ATT phone is now using on TMo?
I am guessing you cant - so how do you know if you are using the refarmed frequencies or not?

i went to tmobile store and they told me the lte is band 4. so if u have tmobile lte in ur area u should be fine. the "4g" is in the reframed area, which i do also get as im in nyc.

So, I got my unlock code from UnlockItNow.com. It arrived a little under 12 hours after purchase ($20). The email went into my junk mail box so I did not notice it until I went looking for it this morning.

The unlock worked, and now I am a happy T-Mobile customer. Now I just need to get used to the Windows Phone interface, and my years with Symbian are now just fond memories.

Just before 11:30 am today I did a few runs on speedtest.net:
Ping: 99ms -- Download: 12.37 Mbps – Upload: 13.28 Mbps
Ping: 84ms -- Download: 10.80 Mbps – Upload: 11.20 Mbps
Ping: 100ms -- Download: 12.12 Mbps – Upload: 12.17 Mbps

(Edit: forgot to mention that I am in Oakland, CA, and speedtest was running against a Berkeley, CA server.)
