1020 v 925 Initial Thoughts

I just got my 1020 today as an "upgrade" from my 925.

I haven't had a chance to play with the camera yet and I'm looking forward to that. I wondering though, how much of an upgrade is this?

As a phone the 925 feels better. It's thinner, lighter and feels so much better in the hand. I'm not sure if it's the camera bump or the polycarbonate body, but it just doesn't feel as good or as premium. I think, initially at least, that I prefer the 925.

Maybe once I get a proper play with the camera and start to fill the 64gb I'll change my mind.

I have a 928 and a 1020 (because I can ). I find the 1020 is not as easy to use as a phone...the bump makes the device a little unwieldy when you're grabbing it quickly, sending email, etc. I use my 928 during the week, and 1020 on weekends when I know I'll be taking more pictures.

Yeah, my 925 isn't going anywhere. I think it will be my Monday to Friday phone.

This may sound strange but try it with the wireless charging shell. It's still unwieldy compared to other smartphones but, for me, this made a surprising improvement in feel. It basically nullifies the effect of the bump on feel.

Good info. I bought a 1020 and really liked the camera but it just felt to big and heavy as a phone and I just did not like the way it felt in the pocket or the hand. So I returned it after reading the article on this website that basically said get the 925 if you could have only one Lumia device. I looked at the 925 today at the ATT store and it is a sweet package! I really like everything about it except the 16GB of storage. Not sure I can do it. I know about skydrive etc (I use three cloud accounts) but that is just not doing it for me. Seems the 925 was have been so much better with a 32GB option. It took a while for the android OEM's to start offering 32GB options but most of the flagships are offering that now. Hopefully MSFT implements that soon.

Sleeping on it for a while. I got a taste of WP and want to try it out some more but the ideal device remains elusive.

The 1020 is heavy compared to other smartphones. The 920 is excessively heavy. Note that if you add the wireless charging cover, the 1020 ends up being almost the same weight as the 920.

No, the 925 is not better, just nicer to hold. In operation the 1020 is noticeably quicker with the extra RAM.

Even Daniel of WP Central says the 925 is his choice as a daily driver over the 1020. Not that is the end all, be all but he knows more about WP than I do. I also felt like the 1020 was too thick and heavy to be my daily driver. I checked out the 925 at the ATT store and it was much more in line with my thoughts on a easy to hold, pocketable device although you are certainly giving up some on the camera.

Having said that, the 925 camera is still very good. Its capable of taking nice photos. I've used one for two months now to take photos of my kids and its been great.

Someone posted a 1020 review in another thread and the reviewer demonstrated how they hold the 1020 by using their index finger on the ridge of the camera mount. That's probably the common sense way to hold it and imho, I think it would be secure and comfortable.

I've had some very mixed experiences with my 920. They look great on the phone and occasionally I take a nice enough one to post on the 920 forum but I find the quality somewhat lacking when viewing the images on my PC monitor and it has a very modest resolution by today's standards.

That doesn't make it better. Just good enough to not need the better camera and extra Ram. I rather have the extra ram then the lighter weight. The extra ram allows me to keep the 1020 for longer. You never know when Microsoft sends out an update that only works on phones with 2 gigs of ram or more.

i could never own the 925 for one reason ...... less then 16gb to the end user ........ nokia murdered this device for me by doing that and making the 32gb model a voda exclusive :-/ jeese even 32gb is limiting these days with hd games , map data , videos recorded , photos taken , music etc etc

i would take the 920 over the 925 for that reason alone , great design on the 925 but like i say the storage murdered it for me , the 1020 rocks specially the 64gb memory and awesome camera of course nokia could have solved all these memory arguements with a simple inclusion of a micro sd slot in the same design as the sim slot aka n8 style ;-)

I find the Lumia to have a great in-hand feel. Don't have a 925 though so I can compare.
