Another Nokia first: Digital Negatives for Lumia - Nokia Conversations : the official Nokia blog

I downloaded them and tried to create my own 5mpx versions. This camera is REALLY awesome. I want a Lumia 1020!!!

Like most of you know, I've been pretty vocal about the shortcomings the 1020 exhibits when compared to the 808.. but here I have to admit that this is a great addition the 1020 and its a huge + over the 808.

I just played around with them in Lightroom.. much better, there is tons of potential.

Here is the cat..I made it to my liking.. nice and smooth :)
Also I exported it in what I believe to be the ultimate resolution .. 12Mpix/100% jpeg compression

Now I need a landscape to work with.

Just imagine if they had RAW output from the 808...

what is with that large file?..are RAW have to be that large? Are there any free software we can use to edit view RAW files?

The quality is AMAZING for a phone. The "war" with other phones cameras is definitely over. :-)

Yes.. raw data from the sensor..

You need PS or Lightroom to open these as far as I know

It has been over since 2010 .. the Nokia N8 was a couple of year ahead of the game.. then in 2012 the 808

I agree.

So from my reservations I had about the 1020 in terms of its camera power especially in comparison with the 808 there is only left over the issue with the vertical lines on the left side.

Do you think Nokia will work on the camera hardware also?

I suggest to try ufraw http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/ It's not the simplest, but it's free and there is many options available to adjust the photo. I did use this when I got my first dslr but then I bought the lightroom.

..i doubt it. There is also nothing they can do about the side blur. My suggestion to users that have a phone with soft edges is to zoom in a little bit when you are shooting landscapes in pureview mode, or just shoot the frame with that under account and then crop it out.

you can use Fotor to process it. Here is the DNG file open on my Surface RT using Fotor.

Does this automaticly ad prosessing to RAWs since those photos look short moment like negatives and then turn out looking like normal image?

No idea, but it does not say anything about processing on the Adobe site. I was curious about the thumbnails as negatives as well, perhaps its because they called the format digital negative so they decided to display the thumbnails with a negative effect?

I'd ask for RAW video but.... I think thats a couple years away haha. At least they could deliver on the promise of manual focus during video. Focus before... Pfft not really. Plenty of phones have tap to focus and even tap to focus DURING filming. This is closer to true manual focus, and not just a better UI for controlling focus before. 2nd big issue, they need a faster way to choose between the options of 5mp, 5+38, 5+38DNG etc. Going into settings everytime is a pain. Ive ended up just shooting at 38 mp for everything, even when its a simple photo of a shopping list or something.

Really need to get more into Photoshopping RAW files. Don't suppose anyone knows of a straight forward, but good tutorial to follow please?
