What about a photo of someone using a 1520 in Monaco, Microsoft is a partner of the Lotus team in F1 or as we call them "Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious" F1 team

I wish Honda would re-enter F1 again! Their last attempt with BAR was a disaster and Jenson Button was no help either...

Hopefully Honda will have luck supplying engines to McLaren next season and think about bringing a team back.

Sorry for going off-topic...

Target Field Facing Downtown - HDR - 140427.jpg

HDR Shot of the Main Entrance of Target Field looking towards Downtown Minneapolis taken at about 9:00pm last night. Used the Bracketed Mode in Nokia Camera Beta to do 5 exposures in 1/2 steps with the exposures combined into an HDR shot using the desktop version of Photomatix Essentials. Slightly cropped and reduced to 1920x1080 for this post. (Twins beat the Rangers BTW)

These are my best shots. I'll definitely take more this summer though! Using it for photography at school next semester also.

3rd Ave Bridge, Mississippi River looking on Downtown Minneapolis at sunset tonight. One of my favorite shots with my 1520 so far.

What do you use for the HDR effect?

I've found the bracketing options on the Nokia camera app too slow, while apps like fhotolens offer way too much noise when attempting HDR.

I've found the bracketing options on the Nokia camera app too slow, while apps like fhotolens offer way too much noise when attempting HDR.

At this point I'm using Windows Phone 8.1 Dev Preview along with Nokia Camera Beta (ver 4.7.1.3). Speed for doing Bracketed shots has been vastly improved, about 1/2 second between frames. Still not DSLR speeds but for landscape shots it's proving to be fast enough that if I'm going to do a landscape or skyline I usually do a bracketed shot now just to have the exposures handy if I want them.

I still haven't found a phone based app for HDR that I like and I tend to agree with your observations (too much noise, slow to process, trouble removing ghosts, etc...) So for the most part I bring photos into the desktop where the advantage of a big screen and fast CPU/GPU's still have the advantage.

Desktop software is a collection of things. I still use MS Digital Image Suite for a lot of stuff, but I also use Photoshop Elements on Occasion and for most of the HDR shots posted here Photomatix Essentials, which is inexpensive at $39, has a surprising number of filters, and is basically drag-drop when merging bracketed photos.

For Video I use a product called Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate for format conversion, compression and light editing and for heaver stuff I've been playing with Corel Video Studio for the last few months.

The PC I edit on is a beast (I've been an IT Geek all my life so having a killer desktop is a bragging rights thing) but none of the software mentioned here really needs anything more than a mid-range PC and (for the Video at least) a decent video card.

That's pretty much the toolbox I've been playing with right now. Probably more info than you wanted but what the heck.

re: Pictures & Videos Taken With My Lumia 1520

What settings or camera app did you use for this pic? It's awesome

Thanks. Believe me I consider myself to be a strict amateur/enthusiast and I'm always in awe of some the shots I see on this thread. But that pic did come out great.

The shot was taken right at Sunset so lighting had a lot to do with it, but it was a 5 exposure bracketed shot that was combined for an HDR image in a desktop product called Photomatix Essentials. What it lacks in advanced functions in makes up for with drop-dead-simplicity, and great algorithms and filters.

re: Pictures & Videos Taken With My Lumia 1520

Thanks NoRomBasic.

There's no such thing as too much info! I'll give that Photomatix program a try. I'm also on 8.1DP and have the Nokia beta camera app as well but bracketing is still pretty slow - even for stationary people with HDR to enhance the background in poor lighting situations there is too much ghosting.

A shame because in android, HDR is a pretty basic function built into every android phone I've used. I appreciate that the 1520 is taking photos at a much higher resolution, but it would be great if there was a HDR mode which turns off downsampling and would just take HDR shots in 5MP mode. Sometimes you just need an auto HDR mode when you don't have a lot of time to compose the shot/giving it to someone else to take and therefore can't afford to fiddle with the manual settings.

Have you played with 4blend HDR or HDR Photo Camera? Oh, Camera360 has an HDR setting too, but I've never used it. It also has a Double Exposure setting, which works quite well!

re: Pictures & Videos Taken With My Lumia 1520

Tried 4blend but kept getting horrible noise/ghosting. HDR Photo camera works the best but is still super slow - like 3-4 seconds for 1 shot which is much too slow for anything except completely stagnant objects. Not much ghosting but still terrible noise. I don't understand why its not possible in WP?

Android cameras take the photo in 1 second and compile it in under 2. HDR Photo camera (trial version) isn't even using downsampling so there really should be no excuse for the delays between shots.
