Hello.. New (within the past week) 1520 user here and was wondering if anyone else has experience a problem attaching to various WiFi networks?
My problem is the kids and I went out to lunch and I tried to attach to the restaurants open WiFi and got the message that it couldn't communicate with the WiFi router. The phone saw the SSID and tried to connect. My kids' phones (iPhone, Android) attached no problem.
So I don't think it was the WiFi AP but something to do with the phone?
Anyone else have this problem?
Other than the quirky WiFi issue, I am really liking the phone. The size doesn't bother me too much, I came from a Galaxy Note 3 so I was already in the phablet category, this is just a smidgen bigger. -

Hmm, I'm not sure that's the problem.. A friend of mine who has the 920 is able to connect to this restaurants WiFi with no problems either. I'll try a reboot next time I go there and see if that helps.
Frustrating, but not a deal breaker for me. - 12-28-2013, 01:39 AM #4

I am having these sorts of issues on my 1520 as well. I narrowed it down to the AP at my office, which runs DD-WRT. If I connect to it, it works fine for a little while, then all WiFi will stop working until a reboot (though it will still show connected).
I think it's a software/firmware bug. A hardware defect wouldn't behave like this. -

Other people are having problems with dd-wrt as well as myself. I changed routers and no problems with WiFi since.

I hope this can be a general WIFI help thread. I just got my 1520....trying to connect to my secure CISCO wifi.....it has one of those pushbutton things.....but, my phone keeps asking for a password....I login into 192.168.etc and I see the password...I input the password and I cannot connect. What am I doing wrong?

Exactly the same issue here. I haven't been able to figure out if the issue is the router or my 1520. I never had this issue with my 920 and my girlfriends 920 has no issues. I've messed around with all my router settings, performed dozens of soft resets and no changes.
My last resort is to upgrade my router. I guess I can always return it if it makes no difference. - 02-22-2014, 01:20 PM #16
I've got a Nokia 925.
There are 2 things i've noticed about connecting via wifi.
1. If i connect using a secured network, with a password, then i can connect to the internet with no problem.
2. If i try and connect using an open wifi hotspot, then the wifi shows as connected, but you can't connect to the internet.
This seems to have happened around Xmas 2013 when i installed the latest update.
Surely those at Microsoft know about this problem and are doing something to fix it!
Is there a solution out there i'm not aware of?

My new Lumia Icon has this same issue. It's any WiFi. Unless I'm right next to a WiFi router, my phone's WiFi icon indicates a strong signal but gets no connectivity.
A new one is on the way (for a bad pixel, totally unrelated), but this WiFi problem seems to be a known issue with the 1520 and the Icon. Dealbreaker for sure, if the new one has the same issue. It's tough enough to bite the bullet and make the switch from iOS without having to worry about the very basic basics not being there, but I still really want this to work! - 02-24-2014, 04:39 PM #18
Very very true.
The Lumia Phones are very good and so easy to use.
It's such a shame that like tomworthjr said, they can't get the basics to work!
And Microsoft wonders why Android and Apple are so popular!
If they got the simple things right, WP would be right up there.
Surely they know the wifi is causing huge problems for users? -

I don't actually own an iPhone - never have done!
Like I said, I own a Nokia 925. Great phone. Rubbish WiFi!
I`m not the only one having problems since the amber update.

Neither have I but I do have a sturdy internet connection and access to Google so typing in "iphone wifi issue" isn't that much work. I don't have a problem with people posting about their problems with their Windows Phone but before saying or implying iphones are somehow better with wifi my advice is actually do ten seconds of research on iphones.
The wifi on ONE Nokia 925 is rubbish. Given the fact you really don't research these things well I don't think you can summarily declare the wifi on all or most 925s "rubbish." I am sure if you type in ANY smartphone that sold in quantity and "wifi" you will find some hits. What you don't ordinarily find is 4000+ post threads complaining about it and major publications running articles exposing the manufacturer aggressively censoring posts.
Anyway before I come to any conclusions regarding any phone I do a lot of hands on research and work myself. Regarding iphones I fiddled with the settings on several iphones. I fiddled with the security protocols on several wifi routers. I had the owner go through three different hand sets acquired over the course of months. I did a major software update. And then I did a software roll back. I made three separate visits to an Apple store and a couple to at&t. I also spent countless hours on the internet research all of that. Then and only then did I declare that there was an issue with the iphone and wifi. Personally I wouldn't touch an iphone simply because of the nightmare I had helping an iphone user with theirs. I have had multiple Windows Phones and never had an issue with wifi.
Some Lumias may have issues with wifi but there is no evidence it occurs anymore than with any other cell phone.
Here is some advice for 1520 owners.
Wait. Don't get the devices during the first week of launch. I never like to be the first with these things. Let the manufacturer work the kinks out.
Update. Do all software updates first thing. Don't rely on automatic updates for your first update. Force it to check and update.
Hard reset. It's a pain in the **** but after doing all available updates do a hard reset.
Return/exchange. When all the above fails try various software and router voodoo you find on forums like this. When you have exhausted all that either return the phone and wait a few months for a different manufacturing batch or try your luck with an exchange. Don't be like those apple idiots that just hang onto their phone and hope Cuppertino will send out a fimware/software fix. - 02-25-2014, 08:31 AM #22
My Lumia 925 appears to have a similar problem when there is Bluetooth interference. When Bluetooth is activated, it sometimes refuses to connect to a WiFi altogether - sometimes states that it was unable to reach the network. If your BT is activated, try to disable it, then toggle WiFi off and back on, and see if it connects. When I have similar connectivity issues, turning off Bluetooth resolves a problem. Which is why not every Lumia owner has this problem, since not everyone uses their Bluetooth on a daily basis. Let me know if that helps.
Anyone know why my old Samsung Focus would never have problems with BT - WIFI interference, while the Lumia line appears to have it? Is it the difference in BT versions, maybe?
Thanks! - 02-28-2014, 08:12 AM #23
My Lumia 900 had issues with wifi if I was on a voice call using BT. I totally forgot about that since I don't use the phone for internet that much while on voice BT calls.
Another thing is there have been reports of the 1520 having issues with ac wifi. - 02-28-2014, 11:57 AM #24
