I just sim swapped from my 950 to my brand new shiny red 1520. I LOVE THIS PHONE. I've had 3 now. A black one, then a white one. Now a shiny red one. 950 fans won't like this but I've tested 2 1520's against my 950 and the 1520 performs better at pretty much everything.

is this a WP8.1 vs W10M sort of situation? Because I know 8.1 is faster/smoother. (or at least less crash prone)

I would not say the 1520 performs better but in terms of performance I would say it's not worth upgrading from the 1520 to the 950. The 1520 runs W10M just as well. The only real upgrade is the camera. The build quality is a downgrade from the 1520.

I honestly can't imagine the 1520 running W10 better than the 950 or the Octacore 950XL. Also, games like GTA (where you can manually adjust graphic effects) run a million times better on the 950. I love my 1520 though. Downsizing from a 6" screen after getting used to it is rough!

If you're happier with your 1520, then good luck to you. I can well believe your 1520 runs WM10 well, because I'm having no issues running WM10 on a Lumia 920.

However, having upgraded from a 930 to a 950XL, I have to say I could never go back, even though I have to agree with people who say WM10 isn't as well developed as WP8.1. The increase in screen size is so useful and the 930 really seems awkward and heavy now. Add the return of the much loved Glance screen and I'm willing to put up with WM10's clunkiness, given that in some ways WM10 is so much better.

I'm wondering if part of your experience is simply down to the reduced screen size. I know that when I pick up the 930, it does seem limited, even though it does almost everything the 950XL can do. Having that extra .7" of screen makes a lot of difference and you lost a whole inch.

I didn't go for the 950 because it seemed too much like a side-grade and frankly, I strongly dislike the shiny ring around the camera. In some respects my life would have been easier with the 950 - I could even use my old belt holster and both of my wireless chargers would work with it - but no, assuming Microsoft continue to develop WM10, the new devices are the way to go. I'm eager to see what HP are bringing to the table.

I don't play games so I can't speak to that. I only know that when I compared my 950 to 2 different 1520s in just about every type of situation the 1520 was faster. They were both running on my home wifi and both set up the same way.

Please enlighten everyone to what it performs better in, I have a 1520 also and the only thing that is better is the battery.

The 1520 opens apps faster, performs basic tasks faster. Which makes sense since the SD800 runs faster than the 808. The 808 may be better for running multiple things at once but the 800 is still faster at basic tasks.

Waiting for the 950 XXL 6" lol. The most disappointing day will be surface phone specs not having 6".

I have enjoyed the 1520. Just bought a brand new 2nd one and charging it now for the 1st time. The new one is a 16, my old one is a 32 but it's hard to find 32gb new.

It's interesting playing with 8.1 again. Makes me wonder if I should not upgrade this one.

I will say snag 1520s new if you can. Technically this is my 3rd, the other one bought used in Dec had phantom touch (frustrating). Though my OG 32gb has been flawless.

Seeing the 950xl made me decide to establish a back up 1520. I love the screen too much.

I'm on my 3rd 1520 too. My first one was a black one straight from att. Then a mint used white one off eBay. Now a red one from eBay.

MS Lumia 950 XL has "teething" pains.
SD810, I think, is partially to blame.
Just returned mine. After initially utilizing a Nexus 6 [great phone] fired up my 1520.
Have to get re-acclimated to size, still a great phone.
Truth is a higher clocked 4 core beats lower clocked "more" cores in just about all uses.
I like to switch among my current "hoard" of phones periodically.
Lumia 1520 gives away nothing but size in my usage.
Another "great phone".

Completely agree about the 4 Cores vs 6 or 8. The SD800, 801 and 805 are more than enough for W10M.
