File this under weird, but my 520 says I'm getting 4G since I updated to amber last week. If memory serves me correctly, they were a 3G max, was it not?

4G showing on the phone does not mean LTE. It means HSPA, with is 3G+ basically.

If you were getting actual 4G (meaning LTE), it would say LTE instead. But, as you said, the 520 doesn't have that.

Same here went from H though to 4G

It's just changing what it's calling it. It did not enable a hidden LTE radio. You're getting the exact same signal and the exact same speed. It's just calling it "4G" now, as do other Lumia phones. (when I leave an LTE area w/ my 1020 it shows "4G" instead of 3G or H or whatever.

Yeah, I don't know why they call it 4G LTE because they are not interchangeable terms.

Well, they were supposed to be until T-Mobile and AT&T just started calling their HSPA+ networks "4G" when Verizon started rolling out their LTE network way ahead of them.

Sprint was actually first out with a real 4G network, though it was their ill-fated WiMAX network which they've since abandoned and are finally rolling out an LTE network.

ATT has both 4G and LTE.
