I'm OCD when it comes to updates, so this morning I've been checking regularly. The update just came through at about 1:30 PM EDT. I'm located in eastern Pennsylvania.

I'm installing it now... The 521 is my 2nd phone so I don't have a lot on it, which makes it easier to start over with setting it up.

That is correct. If you don't do the hard reset you will still have the firmware update, but not the wifi calling app. That will automatically install when you do the hard reset.

Can you upgrade the firmware directly via wifi if you have no SIM card and have not activated the phone on T-Mobile or any other service provider?

Sorry I can't help you there; I have no clue. Have you tried checking for updates in the Settings menu?

Yes, I would check under settings updates to see if one is available.

You can always use Nokia Software for Retail and update it via a pc
