Disable 4G , force Lumia 521 into 2G

Hey all,

After a 1 hour struggle to find some one to get the 521 for me at walmart, I finally got it.

I have a question though.

Im transitioning from a Nokia 700 to the 521. The 700 has symbian belle on it, and it has a feature where I can disable the "4G" to force all data connections into EDGE/2G for saving the battery.

I cant find this option on the 521. Is it possible at all?

Also, what is the status with the new update... I just downloaded a copy of it from another thread, wondering how I can install it to the phone..

Sorry if these questions are noobish, I have no idea what to do

Congratulations on the new phone! To save more battery, you can just turn off mobile data under cellular in settings.

The option to change to 2g is blocked by T-Mobile. It used to be present but blocked now.

But you can try
Dial ##3282#
Choose ... Settings
Change network selection to 2g..

Only way that I see to change. Not sure if it will work or not.

To update to gdr2/amber you need Nokia care suite

That reallly kinda blows. Unless the 4G Battery life isnt that bad. Any comments about 4G battery life?

Is the Care Suite something like the nokia update manager (for Symbian?)

For me with light internet usage more than 12 hours. heavy usage about 8 hours. It varies depending on activities and apps you have installed.

Care suite will allow you to update or reflash you phone. Search for it you will find plenty of tutorials for it.

With cellular on and minimal activities days has well.

It all depends on what you do with phone and how you manage it..

Just tried forcing my 521 to 2G via your method, and it does work.

4G battery life really shouldn't be any worse than 2G. Especially since the phones idle in 3G mode, and only activate HSPA+ speeds when you are using data.
