Deleting E-mails ?

Hi,
I use the inbuilt app to access my gmail account. If I delete E-mails from the phone are they deleted from the gmail server as well?
(I'm bit concerened about my storage space & would like delete emails from my phone after reading while keeping them on gmail)
Or is there any setting I can set that?

It think it deletes it from the server, but sometimes for me it doesn't. I don't know why. And I use Hotmail.

Go to Gmail > Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP
Scroll down and look for: When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder
There select the Archiveoption.

Try it and let us know. A I don't have a WP8 so I can't be sure if it works.
