Hi guys,

I'm with Nokia Lumia 625 Cyan.
OS: 8.10.12393
Firmware: 3058.50000.1424.0004

When trying to update (supposedly) to Denim, I always get this error:

"We are currently unable to check for updates." (80072efe)

I've tried reseting my phone numerous of times using Windows Recovery Tool. Also tried 2 different Wi-Fi connections, but to no avail.
I just can't trigger an update and that's it.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Error code 80072efe is caused by an internet connection interruption between your phone and the update servers. If you've done everything that you can to ensure that you've got a reliable internet connection, then the problem most probably is now with the server side - the servers may be busy, are overloaded, being upgraded... or that they simply can't be accessed from you area at this point in time.

You could try updating your device after a few hours or days.

And welcome to Windows Central.

Thanks a lot for the info gpobernardo!

Sadly, I've been trying this for nearly 2 months now and it's always the same error. I think there's something more than busy servers. I'll keep digging.

Two months!? Could you check if Denim update is available for your region here? It is available in most regions so it should be available in your region too (I didn't go through each and every country).

By trying two different Wi-Fi connections, did you try two totally different connections (from different internet service providers, or at least from two different locations)? It could be that the internet service provider is blocking the servers.

Yeah, I've checked the availability page and Denim should be available for my location (Germany).

I'm always trying behind the same ISP, so I think you are probably right about the blocking thing. I ran a wireshark trace today and I got this:

The phone sends the request, but something in the middle times it out. :-/

This may be closed.

The windows phone update started working after I used a proxy server on my wi-fi setup. *Sigh*

Thanks for the hints gpobernardo!!

Was about to suggest using some form of proxy-ing technique.

Glad to know that everything's settled (so far). You're welcome!
