Do you guys think the 635 is an upgrade from the 521?

Since they're both metro pcs, I think I might ditch the 521 for the 635 sometime in the future, do you guys think the 635 is better?

The L635 is nice and seems kind a decent upgrade from 520/521 the screen is bigger and better CPU chipset... but maybe you should wait for the 730/830 who knows, maybe could come to T-mo/MetroPCS.

Here you can compare both head to head, at least spec wise.

Thanks for the link, I really think it sucks how the only phones on metro pcs are low end, we need mid-high range stuff too :D

Don't buy... Wait till November 2014 : 2 devices coming
Wait till July 2015 : 5 new devices with new OS is coming

Definitely an upgrade:
  • Replaceable back shells
  • On-screen nav buttons
  • Wi-Fi calling that works
  • Single key re-boot
  • Larger battery
  • Cyan installed
  • 4 cores
  • LTE

The price of these will dump shortly I'm betting.

I agree with all of Guytronic's points. LTE and the larger screen are the biggest two factors that I think will be worth the upgrade

It can be a downgrade too.

- No camera button
- no proximity or ambient light sensors
- on screen nav buttons are subjective (i wouldn't mind, but some would)
- larger, less sharp display

(but the display is better quality, IIRC)

Sorry for the late reply, I had knocked out a while after posting :D
No camera button bothers me a little, but I can have it on the action center, so that resolves that.
What does proximity and ambient light sensor do? Is that the automatic brightness?
The nav buttons is my favorite thing, I hope they actually respond unlike on my 521 (which probably happens because I'm running Dev Preview, so it makes sense.
Wifi Calling problems, you guys have that too?! I thought it was just me because it would stay on even after theres no more wifi.
Finally, is LTE better than 4G? On the Nokia website I see it only has 3G, not sure if it makes a difference besides bragging rights.
Edit that I forgot: I doubt the news phones and OS are coming to metro, maybe to t-mobile, and then I'll be able to use it on metro, but probably not straight to metro pcs :/

Yes it is automatic brightness for the light sensor. The proximity sensor in a phone generally turns the screen off when your face is near it (for a call)

However these 2 I find not to be an issue because:

1. Brightness toggle can be found in the action center, which is a quick swipe down. I find medium brightness actually does work very well for most situations.

2. I read somewhere that Nokia did some trickery such that if it senses your face (or not a finger) on the touch screen during a call, it does not register input. Thus the screen being on in a call doesn't pose a problem. I have in fact never accidentally pressed something with my face in a call so far, so perhaps the trick worked

Yes. 635 is definitely a good upgrade. Alternatively you can also wait for 730, 830 unless you, absolutely can't wait to upgrade.

Proximity sensor is generally used to turn off the display during a call. Most Lumia's also use it to see whether the phone is in a pocket, turning off stuff accordingly like double tap to wake and the camera button (if enabled)

Light sensor is just auto brightness.

In the 630, if the phone detects contact in the upper part of the phone it turns off, similar and smart. Although not as great.

Well that sure is good to know, I'll be passing my one of the retail stores nearby to see if they have it in stock, if not I might wait for the 730/830, maybe those will be for T-Mobile/Metro PCS.
Many thanks to everyone who posted!

Just went from the 521 to 635 - by far my favorite change has been the LTE connectivity and bit of a larger screen. I don't really miss the dedicated camera button like I thought I would - putting it in the action center works fine.

Kik never works on my 521. It always works fine for a while and then it starts crashing, and I don't think my 521 has double tap to wake,so I'd be okay with that.

It didn't initially, but it does now.
At least it should.
My sister's 521 has the option, she doesn't have it on though.

Don't see the double tap to wake option on the 635, never used it on the 521 anyways. Cyan is good - hadn't put it on the 521, but did have the latest build of 8.1 DP.

just replaced my 520 for the 635 and like it. i would say its a pretty good upgrade love the new look feels better, bigger screen, Larger battery
Quad core apps load a bit faster,

things missing that the 520 had Light sensor, Proximity sensor, and double tap. but no big deal for me

Spec-wise, the 635 is an upgrade, no question about it.

Feature-wise, it'll still be an upgrade, though in a much smaller capacity.

I got one and no doubt it is an upgrade. I really like my new phone. Brighter, clearer and LTE for a small price.
