9 day old Lumia 830 screen is hard to turn on (double tab) and gets "stuck" in random places on the Windows Screen. Because tech was able to get the candy dot screen (the screen is busted screen) up by pressing all buttons at once, was told it the screen must have been pushed on "too hard". Due to this, I have to go through insurance to replace a 9 day old phone. Posting as the idea that I pushed "too hard" on the screen seems to be a complete "whatttttt????" statement. Any thoughts on fixes?

Welp, there goes by battery theory/experiment. After 2 days of no random reboots on my RM-985 after switching batteries, the phone froze using WhatsApp this morning (never froze using it before) and rebooted itself.

Do I return the device to B&H or try swapping out the SIM first? Don't want to wait too long to return it.

It's worth noting that I used the same SIM on my RM-984 and never once had a random reboot.

Probably not a sim problem.
Do you have a sd card installed ?
If so:
- Is Whatsapp installed on the SD card or the phone memory ?
- Do you have any apps that "run all the time" such as weather, pinned to the home screen, that are on the SD card instead of on the phone memory ?
- Do you have any apps that run in the background installed on the SD card instead of in the phone memory ?

I do have an SD card in there (a 32GB SanDisk Extreme Plus) but no apps installed on it. Same SD card I used on my RM-984 and my Lumia 1520 before it with no problems :-/

I bought my Lumia 830 two weeks ago. Coming from a 520, I tested the 830 in store and was amazed by the efficiency of the device. Power, design, business yet playful look and a great camera for a great price (Lumia 830 is only 70 euros more than the 735 in the Netherlands).

Meanwhile, despite all the advantages, I've returned it. First of all the charger didn't work. That's not a major problem, since I have a lot of chargers and the USB-cable itself worked fine. Then after a few days, when I pushed on the back of the device, I noticed there was room between the cover and the battery. The pushing also made these kind of stains on the screen like when you touch a tft screen. That's a pity, because it made the device feel much cheaper, but still no deal breaker for me. Untill 2 days ago the screen came loose from its shell in the top right corner. The problems with the pushing on the back seemed to increase (maybe because of the disbalance in the device, with the loose screen). I returned it today. This is not the Nokia build I was expecting with my recent experiences with the 520 in mind.

Tomorrow I'll pick up another white 830. I'm not judging yet, maybe this was just a 'monday morning' device. My roommate has the black 830 and his is working great. Fingers crossed....

When I search for a business on Cortana it will give me a button with the number to call (which works) and a button that says directions which should launch the HERE+ app, but just bounces me back to the same screen again. This may be a software issue, I am running the DP, but I didn't have this issue on my 1020 on DP, but do on my 830. Anyone else experiencing this?

No, it works here. I'm also running the latest DP.

Try a soft reset, but first go to settings/applications/maps and make sure Here is selected as the default navigation app.

I am also a bit concerned that the little hooks on the back cover are likely to snap at some point. On the other hand, I don't think I'll be removing the cover often. Thanks, AT&T, for providing two covers, though I do think that green color is pretty bright!

Viewing angles seem fine to me. Also most of the time I'm looking at my phone head-on. I've never understood why viewing angle is a big deal but maybe it's just the way I use my phone?

Like mdemo, my new 830 is my first windows phone. I didn't have his problem with the supplied charger, but I do get that message when I use chargers other than the one supplied. What's up with that? I'm using a Qi charger on my desk but in the car the slow charger warning is annoying. What are the characteristics of a charger that I need to know about?

Also, I'll echo mdemo - I'm enjoying the information sharing and collegiality here. The level of snark is almost zero. Another big improvement from Apple!

No quibble here with calling it a bug. However there is a stream elsewhere on this site that discusses the issue. Apparently, Nokia took away the option to save maps to SD. There was Nokia a beta app that supposedly enabled saving maps to SD, I think it was posted over the summer, but when I tried it with my 830 it disabled map downloads altogether.

(Sorry, I'm a newbie to this chat and wasn't using the quote feature.)

That's the app I used that made it impossible to download maps. When I removed that app, I could download them again. I'd be interested to know other people's experience with this. Note that it was released more than a year and a half ago, so compatibility with the 830 could be an issue.

I didn't realize it was you on both threads...

I've used it successfully on my Lumia 620. I haven't yet put an SD card in my 830, I plan to get all my files copied off from my android, and move it over this weekend. I'll report back if it works.

anyone else notice that if you scroll down the start screen, the phone scrolls smoothly, but when you scroll back up there's a stutter about halfway up? mpt sure why it's smooth one way, but there's a stutter the other way. i assume it's a tiny bug.

I hadn't noticed it, but now that you point it out ... I tried it and you're right, although for me it's at the bottom of the screen - so perhaps it depends on how much stuff you have on your home screen.

Well although I tired this before and it didn't work, apparently I was doing something wrong, because I tried again last night and it worked fine. 1gb of maps now on my SD card that previously were stored on the phone. I followed the steps posted by VineRider in this forum:
