Lol that a lot of exclamation marks :p Yes I found it weird when I saw this.. But at least some can rest peacefully now, knowing that there are new phones coming

I would not put too much into this. If you follow the sources they include language like this:
"Still, we will accept that it is the preliminary info that we have and it may change later and Microsoft may not even bring these devices to the market."
Of course we know MS will release new Lumias, what they will be named is all guess work.

So, we have some info about one such mid-ranger in works, that may pack Dual-Sim support, 13-14 MP rear camera (PureView), 5 MP FFC, better processor and may sport similar or slightly modified design to Lumia 830. While it is not sure what the name may be, we may call it Lumia 840 for our convenience. This device may have a screen size around 5-inch.One more mid-ranger has been tipped as in works by our sources and it may be a device with bigger display (5.5 inch to 5.7 inch) and may pack camera specs similar to Lumia 840 but non-Pureview. Again we don’t know what it will be called but let us call its Lumia 740 XL.

going from "we may be releasing a new phone that we may for convenience call L840" to the L830 will be discontinued and replaced by an L840 now is a wild stretch...

Pure conjecture at this point. Lumia social media accounts are still promoting the 830. I don't recall them ever doing that after discontinuing a device.

An article I read linked under MS News on the Bing US page, from BidnessEtc, appeared to be a crock. It mentioned a 940 "in upcoming years" and that the 840 would have 8.1 GDR2. Won't the 840 be less than a year old when W10 is RTM?
Edit: Won't the 830...

The 830 came to general availability in September of 2014 which is around the time where Microsoft usually opens the floodgates on Windows-releases. They could be announcing it in august and release it in September, but it is all a guessing game for now.

No, they have them. In a fit of insanity, I was thinking just this afternoon of buying a brand new phone, and locking into a 2 year contract (I haven't had a contract in a long time).

Anyways, they had 830's available. Their only WP's, if I recall, though, were 830, 635, and M8.

edit: I came back to my senses and closed the page before I made a mistake.

The design of the 830 is perfect, I love that part of it. But truth be told it is under powered for sure. A replacement is more than welcome at this point.

Color me crazy, but at this point I would do cartwheels and a tap dancing routine at the thought of new devices. I have no problem with the L830- a decent device. But honestly- Window 10 branded Lumia's and next gen devices are needed and are overdue. I know what we have is all we can expect between now and then. I also want them to sit on them until W10 for phones is truly the game changer it needs to be. Heck, at this point it really can't do too much more damage.

But still- I would happily sacrifice the L830 for a new wave of Windows phones that hold their own VS. top end Android devices and out perform mid range ones. Not that I think it will happen before July or August, but I will be happy when it does.

I too would absolutely love for the 840 to come out. The 830 was perfect except for being too slow with the budget processor. If a new one came out that was almost identical except better camera and faster processor, how is that bad in ANY way?

Because we just spent good money on an 830?

Is the 830 out of stock at ATT?

No but apparently the Denim update is! :asleep:

"The design will be more or less like the Lumia 830 with slight improvements to the aesthetics." - Hopefully the 840 back cover is the same size/shape as the 830 and comes in different colors so I can get them for my 830. Wishful thinking...

Depends on the price. The 830 at $450 was way too high for what it offered. I only bought one last month because I got it for the $199 online MS store off contract deal. Knowing what I know now about this phone (Glance screen lag & no Denim update), I would have never paid more than $200 for it. If the 840 just bumps up the processor, which the 830 should have had for that price, and only adds a few more MP to the camera's then it's probably still not worth $450. We'll see how they price it. Maybe MS can bundle it with the Band instead of a Fitbit!
