Maximizing free storage

I'm currently updating to WM10, trying to free up as much storage as possible. Phone is telling me I have 2 gigs free and that more than 5 gigs are being used by "other" files. I've emptied every folder I have access to - music, photos etc. I would really like to get rid of the "other" files if anybody can tell me how to do that.

Do a hard reset Really the only option to get rid of it

I guess in effect the upgrade to 10 was a hard reset. "other" is now zero, but my apps storage tripled (system increased a little too obviously). I guess there are apps that 10 recognizes as such, whereas 8.1 was confused and threw them in the "other" stack. Bottom line is the vast majority of my storage is used by my apps - time to cull some of them.

That, or move them to SD card..

This might sound ridiculous, but I just yesterday noticed the (empty) SD slot after two years. D'oh!

You can delete some of the other staff by connecting you phone to a pc, this worked for me.

Yes, that's how I was doing it. But I never found where the "other" stuff was.

One of the future updates will bring the ability to uninstall system apps. Won't do a lot lol, but it's a nice option to have
