Unlocked International Version

Hey,

I'm on T-mobile(USA) and I travel a lot. I love the 920 and was wonder if there would be an unlocked international version of the device and if yes would it work on my T-mobile and would it be available to buy with in USA. I love the device but the way they setup their carriers is making me feel I might have to go with the HTC 8x.

been using and HD7 since launch and it's a great device and worked well when I travelled. I love what the 920 has to offer and would love to own one

Nobody really knows yet. You would need to watch sites like MobileCityOnline, NewEgg, Amazon, eBay.to see if they become available.It would be nice if they came out with a pentaband version. My Nokia N8 and my wife's Nokia 808 are unlocked pentaband phones and work on either T-Mobile or AT&T.

U.S.carriers want you locked into their network.

Yea they need to start spilling details soon. Win8 launch is at hand and winphone 8 also close. HTC already announced November. Considering that is the WP8 flagship phone. I don't know if Nokia can pre empt their release date.

Why can't each manufacturer just have unlocked / penta band phones on their website for sale. I think Motorola used to do that.

Exactly they get their money regardless. It's all those contracts with the carriers manufacturers make.

Because U.S. carriers want you locked into their network.

In Europe the carriers all use the same frequency. It's no problem buying an unlocked/unbranded phone in Europe and if you buy the phone outright, you get a much cheaper voice/data plan.

In Asia where they have a few CDMA carriers (like Verizon/Sprint here) Their CDMA phones have a SIM type card to change carriers.

Nokia will likely (will release) separate model for USA that supports the local LTE bands. Though does the current RM version support T-Mobile and AT&T 3G?

Unlocked Lumia 920 will be widely available in Europe, but they will be missing USA warranty. Imo there's will be better chance of proper unlocked Lumia 920 being available if Lumia 920 wont start as AT&T exclusive in USA.

I remember when Motorola had different color slvr's and other phones on their web site. This was maybe in 2005. They were unlocked, did it really hurt the carrier's sales?

the 920 isn't going to come to tmobile, atleast not until the 1900 reframing is done. Somebody asked Elop a question about why the 920 doesn't have the 1700 band on it and he kinda side stepped the question. Most likely Tmo is going to get the 820, Ativ, 8x and 8s but no 920, which is a huge bummer since Tmo has been service and the fastest data in my area.

I don't know where you live, but here in Bellevue I am beginning to see the results of the refarming. I drive through different parts of the city and am seeing 3G on my 800. I will definitely get a 920 as well as an 8s or 8x.

Hi everyone,

So I read all the post here and just clarify it all.
The Nokia 920 will not be or maybe able to receive LTE 4G from any U.S. carriers because the 1700, 1900 is left out as well as the GSM 700 band. But there is a 2100 band that is still available on the international; so will that be good enough to make it LTE 4G U.S. functional?
