    I know it says that it turns off notifications while on standby and that email is synced manually, but does this only come into effect when battery is low, or at all times?

    If you click advanced on the battery saver page, you have moe options including to turn it on all the time. If left on auto it turns on when the battery gets down to around 15% i think.
