For full nationwide T-Mobile support (area's not running the refarmed 1900mhz band) you'll need a 920 that is pentaband that has the 1700mhz capability. An unlocked AT&T 920 does NOT have the 1700mhz band so an unlocked AT&T 920 will only work on T-Mobile if your geographic location is currently running the refarmed 1900mhz T-Mobile frequency. This is an old article, but it does list a large group of cities currently running 1900mhz T-Mobile 3G+.

T-Mobile lists all 49 cities with 1900MHz HSPA+ service as one user finds small patch of LTE in NYC | PhoneDog

The most compatible option is to get buy an unlocked pentaband 920 (Rogers is the only carrier with a 920 variant that is pentaband) so you have coverage and full services in every T-Mobile service area.

I have been using my AT&T Lumia 920 on T-Mobile for two weeks now. Sadly, all I get is EDGE in WA. LTE does seem to work in Seattle the one time I went there, but no where else. Reception is terrible for voice everywhere. Will probably just switch to 521 to hold me over for something better.

I must say I'm in atlanta and I get about a 50/50 mix of EDGE and 4G but every now and then I do see LTE pop up so who knows once t-mobile get its LTE fully deployed we maybe able to use the ATT 920 on tmo LTE
