Lumia 920 Performance in comparison to newer phones

I have recently ordered a Lumia 920 from amazon at a good price and was wondering how its performance compares to newer phones such as the Lumia 635 which I currently have. I bought the Lumia 920 since it has a lot of features and I got a good deal on it. I am wondering however if it's going to be much slower than newer phones as it only has a dual core processor and an older GPU. Also if you have this phone did you fill out its storage very quickly. I am also asking this as there is no card slot on the 920.

Re: Lumia 920 Performance in comparison to newer phones

Hello! I have a 920, and have had it for almost a year now. It is still very zippy, to the point where my iPhone 5/6 wielding friends are very impressed. In terms of storage, if you backup photos to OneDrive that certainly helps, but I'm on about 7gb free with lots of apps I don't use that I could delete to free up space

I'd suggest to stay and stick at Lumia black. The best version for 920 for fantastic battery life.

Even the 920 it's quite old... still a flagship phone and superior in almost every feature vs the 630/635.

The 4 cores CPU of the 630/635 helps to the overall performance, but with 512MB of RAM some graphic intensive games are not compatible with the phone, the L920 with 1GB or RAM doesn't have this problem.

The GPU of the 630/630 which is the Adreno 305 is similar in 2D/3D performance to 920 Adreno 225, the advantage of the 305 is lower power consumption.

About the storage, i have no problems on my L920 with many apps and some music i still have like 18GB available.

920 is still more powerful that any phone using Snapdragon 400 or lower.
1.5ghz dual core cortex a9 is still better than 1.2ghz cortex a7 of SD 400 even in quad core setup. Also adreno 225 was quoted to be 8x faster than original adreno 200 while adreno 305 was quoted to be only 6x faster than original adreno 200 when it was launched.
The only thing that's inferior is efficiency as its prone to heat up more and battery won't be as good as with the SD400 phones and it also lacks the new stuff like sensor core. But in raw perfomence 920 is still better than most x30 lumias out there.

Sounds like I made a good decision. I almost got the 925 which is slightly newer but since there is also no expandable storage and only 16 GB of storage on the 925 so I decided to get the 920 instead.

It wont be dramatically slower, for sure. The extra RAM would help in some places for sure.
I haven't really packed in stuff, I sit at 6-8 GB free personally, but then again I've gotten rid of the huge games I never play, so that frees up a lot, and I've been just throwing in whatever I want without regards to space since 32 GB was insanely big by my standards.

That is the problem with the L920. As much as I admire and want a newer Lumia, I can't justify leaving the 920. It still is as good as or equal to the majority of newer phones out there.
It is also why a lot of 920 owners are reluctant to upgrade, the 920 is still a good phone and a good bargain buy.

Re: Lumia 920 Performance in comparison to newer phones

Its why I am still with my 820 (same insides as 920). Plus it has a SD slot, removeable battery, replaceable back covers, etc.In fact the only fault I find with the 820 is the small battery, 1650. But I have learned to deal with that an have adveraged 1 day and 13 hours between charges for the past 2 years. I had high hopes for the 830 but it just seems its not 450$ better than my 820. I will upgrade to a new windows phone (got the 1000$ set aside) but not one of the ones out there now. Bought a Moto G lte to play with, but the 820 is still my main phone. Wanted to try a 735; but they are at 400$ also on Amazon and I got the G for only 200$. Still looking and waiting.

I've seen an alleged 2500 mAh battery for sale, its been a topic here too.
I've actually been considering getting an 820 with one of those batteries if it's as good as advertised
