Step By Step

1 - Download firmware with NCS using the Product Codes above
2 - Once Downloaded, Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\RM-892
3 - Change the folder name to RM-821 so you see C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\RM-821
ONLY THE FOLDER NAME nothing else
4 - Go to NCS, Open Product
5 - Find and click RM-821

6 - Update list and you should see this

wp1.jpg

7 - Continue with the normal flashing process, once done. your have to set your phone up again and update all system apps

In short all you really doing is changing the Folder name of RM-892 to RM-821 so that NCS can pick it up

Whats the GB means? Also is it normal to flash a ROM wth different product code? I mean by norma that it will have no side effects at all? Some people say that there is a file of the rom downloaded files if its the same there will be no problem at all, is this right?

im not 100% but i think GB is the generic variant of the lumia 925. GB variant is like nothing added to it. RM-892 VAR GB VOD CONTRACT 32GB SL BLACK 059S700 variant which my phone came with is vodaphones variant of my phone so Vodaphone would of added stuff to it, for instance the logo that the appears when booting the phone up, other vairants may have apps added e.c.t, things that are specific to that carrier or the carrier wants to add them. As long as its a RM-892 i think your be alright. ( someone correct me if im wrong ) Your start having problems when flashing other RM's, like for the lumia 920 there are a few RMs to the phone. RM-821, RM-820 e.c.t.

I tried to install it on a Lumia 920 but it wasn't possible. Even if I try to say my phone is dead and "force" the installation it says this firmware isn't signed to the device. No doubt anymore! =P

You're a brave man! Thank you, just one question does it still register as 32GB and does it have 4G option in "mobile network" settings? I'm considering doing the same I hate branding!

Does WP8 reboot that often that you want to de-brand it? As far as I know all the programs the carrier adds can be uninstalled, so really all this changes is the start-up screen, right?

Not quite, branded phones only come with settings for carrier that supplied it so if I put an O2 sim in it I have to set up access points etc manually! more importantly Vodafone etc did not make the phone they just add junk I personally do not want, and sometimes operators remove functions that they don't have or think you want. Apple don't let operators brand their handsets and as a result Apple software updates hit every device at the same time. If Nokia/ Microsoft roll out an update each carrier has to test it and some carriers never deliver some updates!

I have found my own answers jumped in feet first. I have just flashed my Vodafone 32GB 925 as above and have an unbranded 925 and yes the storage shows as 32GB with 29GB free and as with the UK CV lumia 920 unbranded software there is no 4G in the "highest connection speed" setting. So I assume that 4G function on unbranded 925's will be the same as the unbranded 920's which is supposedly an update as other carriers roll out their 4G service. I have downloaded the original Vodafone UK 32GB rom just in case!

just read your messages, sorry guys. high five to Adrian ;) we have, none branded 32 gig lumia 925 ;) Yes I believe the 4G comes as an update from the carrier. yup all its really done is get rid of vodaphones start up crap lol. Reason being I spoke to Vodaphone and they said they can unlock for me for 19 pounds and something. So having a unbranded phone will help in that sense

update so far

been on the UK CV firmware since sunday and have had no problems at all, no reboots nothing, so all is good as far as I can tell ;)

Only down side is if I use my 4G EE sim with the unbranded software (920 or 925)I can only get 3G! It's odd that as yet no UK unbranded Roms support EE 4G, I would have thought that now the exclusive period has ended with EE Nokia would have updated the roms to at least support EE on their sim free handsets?
